Please do you confirm this issue did not appear when testing VRR mode on this TV ? And could you give the exact model of the tested TV (settings => about this TV) ?
I have both Samsung Q90T and LG OLED CX. And I tried Fornite on PS5 yesterday on Q90T.
With the PS5 plugged on the Q90T, the supported video signal in the System display settings is HDR YUV422.
When I launch Fornite, yes I have HDR with 120 hz. But colors are too vivid, and does not seem HDR, like when I run Fornite on PC without HDR.
Q90T TV on my PC (Nvidia 3080) when I do not set the HDR on, I have the same result.
PS5 + Fornite 120hz + LG OLED CX => Wonderful colors, very good lattency
PS5 + Fornite 120hz + Samsung Q90T => Too vivid colors (bleeding eyes), but very good lattency
PC Nvidia + Fornite 120hz + Samsung Q90T => Too vivid colors (bleeding eyes), but very good lattency
PC Nvidia + Fornite 120hz + Samsung Q90T + HDR=> Wonderful colors, but average lattency
PC Nvidia + Fornite 120hz + Samsung Q90T + HDR + VRR=> Dull color, blacks issues, but very good lattency
But it is possible the tester did not notice the difference when switching to VRR mode. So I uploaded photos of the screen in with or without VRR, of an underexposed photo with Lithroom:
I just purchased a graphic card that supports VRR and I came into that issue too. There are plenty of reports about this issue. I just have to activate VRR with my graphic card to have dull colors and grayish darks.
I have a crash when Launching Fortnite with HDR + VRR / 120 hz / 4K.
If I launch Fortnite with it is HDR , it’s OK, with VRR => OK, but both of them causes me a crash of the game, I have to press ALT F4 because there is no signal.
I can launch Fortnite with HDR only, and in the game activate Game mode, in that case I have both HDR + VRR. But I have to think to desactivate VRR before launching the game each time.
I have 465.89 WHQL drivers , everything is up-to-date, even my firmwares.

In VRR mode we can notice there is a gap in the gradient from full black to dark grays.

I don’t understand why the reviewer that tested VRR Nvidia 3080 did not run into that issue.
TV firmware is updated to 1497. Graphic card is a EVGA Nvidia 3080 Ultra Gaming firmware updated, drivers up-to-date 465.89.
