Hi Matsmashed,
That’s an interesting point. If there’s enough user interest in testing the Theater Bar 9 with the optional surrounds and subwoofer we’ll consider testing it as it’s own standalone review. For now, you can try adding it to our Soundbar Suggestion Poll, and if it wins the poll it’ll be tested next!
Thanks,
Matt
Agreed, I think you should test the Bar 8 and 9 with the RS3’s and RS5’s surrounds plus the SW3 and SW5 subs, as that is a much more complete setup, especially for Atmos.
Having the Bar 9, RS5’s and SW5, I think it makes it sound much better than the Bar on its own imo.
Also the new IMAX Enhanced update is now out too, which sounded pretty punchy and loud when I tested it.
I got recently got the Theatre Bar 9 + SA-RS5 Atmos Surround Speakers + SA-SW5 sub to get the most out of the Bar 9 (7.1.4) and together they definitely help give the sound stage a much fuller sound, much better than the Bar 9 on its own, so worth spending the extra if you really want a Bar 9 and to get the best out of it.
I’m pretty happy with it overall, Blu-ray and 4k movies and games sound great and TV content definitely sounds better than just the TV speakers.
A number of international Sony Support sites had VRR/ALLM re-listed as being supported by the 900h today. More importantly, a reliable source reached out directly to Sony and confirmed VRR/ALLM is coming for the 900h. Consistent information across all Sony websites and an announcement will be coming soon. BONUS: It appears the PS5 and x900h have already been using some kind of “Sony only” VRR-type technology, which explains why the PS5 seems to perform so much better than the XSX on the 900h.
Yeah I saw that but not sure exactly what they mean by Sony Only VRR though because I’m getting screen tearing and can notice some framerate dips on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, so there’s no VRR happening as far as I can tell on PS5 with this TV.
Sony Support YouTube Channel still has the X900H / XH90 Product Overview from 3 months ago and they clearly state HDMI 2.1 features VRR and ALLM for this TV around 1.40 into the video.
Have you logged into apps etc? If not, you may be able to return it still? I’ve been refused a refund by John Lewis because of data protection. I set the TV up as per the instructions and that voided my chance to return the TV……. Feel so conned by this fiasco.
Yes I’ve used apps but that sounds like a pretty crap excuse they gave you. A factory reset would wipe any data stored on it.
I only got mine on Boxing Day, so only had it a few weeks, really hoping this is just a mistake, Sony still lists VRR on the their UK site and other countries do too, so hopefully it’s just a mistake from the US site.
I’ve taken screenshots of the sites, so have proof if they try and remove the info and will be getting a refund one way or another if they decide not to offer the advertised VRR and ALLM, as it was one of their big selling points of this TV for PlayStation 5.
It would be a shame to return it because I think the TV is pretty damn good, but I’ll happily return it and get one of their 2021 TV’s instead if they don’t offer VRR on this one.
Hopefully we get some new info on this next week to clear this up.
Having just purchased the 65-XH92 (UK Model with adjustable feet) I really hope this info is wrong because VRR is one of the main reasons I got this TV, being the TV Sony were saying is PlayStation 5 Ready.

I downloaded the video in case they delete it.
