I would say not an “issue” but some more blur than it probably should when using motion settings. Something improved with the update based on my experience and folks on Reddit.
Changelog (translated)
Update Version 1301.1
Art mode operation specifications improved
Improved audio operation function
Improvement of malfunction of cable broadcasting channels
Improved YouTube operation specifications
Improved memory operation specifications
Maybe rtings can retest the motion after the update.
Thanks for the reply. Viewing angle and reflection handling ( based on your scores) are not an issue for me as this tv would be in a darker room. The q80t is a great tv but I want something brighter and punchier to improve the hdr experience
Interested in this tv to replace a q80t in my bedroom. I find hdr on shows on the q80t to be too dark at times especially compared to my main tv a q80r. I find that the q80r is a huge step up from the q80t. My concern is with your 7.5 and 7.6 ratings for tv shows and sports. Is the main reason these two ratings are lower than the same ratings on my q80t are because of viewing angle? Based on the sdr brightness you would think thatshows would look better on this tv than the q80t. Thanks
I am toying with the idea of upgrading my 55” q80r to a 65” qn90d. Your rating of 8.4 suggests that my q80r is slightly better for watching hdr content even though your qn90d (8.2) test results suggest that it has a better contrast ratio, brighter image, better color volume and black uniformity making it harder to justify an upgrade. Thanks
Be interested to know where most people that are suffering the stutter issue are located. Seems like more of a problem in the UK although have heard some people are experiencing the issue here in North America.
Any info on watching sports via an app on an Apple tv or Fire stick with the Q80t? My local electronic store still has a few in stock and I am running out of time before they are sold out. My only hesitation is the stutter/judder issue that I keep reading about. Also I am aware of multiple panel versions (some made by Samsung, FA03) and some made by other companies and am wondering if this could influence the stutter that bother some and not others. Thanks
Hi there!
I just wanted to touch base and see exactly which score you’re referring to when you’re talking about the HDR score, do you mean the HDR Movies score? Thanks :)
Continuing the sad story, lots of lines of dead pixels appeared on my crappy q80T. I complained and today my panel was replaced. Third panel, guys… Third. I was happy when I saw it because at least I would have a shot of solving the banding problem. Well… It did not solve it. It has a lot less banding than the previous two, but still… Worst tv ever for sports.
Be interested to know where you guys are from. It seems that a lot of people in Europe are having issues with stuttering. I understand that tv content there is 50Hz. Be interested to know if 60hz content suffers the same problems here in North America.
This is terrible. The Q80R goes to the worse Q80T goes to the worse Q80A. NO HIGH END ANTI REFLECTION COATING THIS YEAR, basically you now have to buy the Neo QLED just to get that nice anti reflective coating I got with my 10 year old 40 inch Samsung TV. Terrible.
The q80r is an awesome tv. I should have bought a second one if I knew the Samsungs from the last two years were a step down in features and quality.
If the tv is auto adjusting then try turning of all eco settings and ambient light detection. Play with the contrast enhancer (set to high). Also you can increase your gamma setting. For motion try turning off auto motion plus to get rid of soap opera effect. Also try setting sharpness to zero and set digital clean view to off.
Hi again! Really appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us! :)
So, it’s worth mentioning that we already sometimes subjectively validate certain scores. For instance, if a certain headset is supposed to have good noise isolation, but the results say otherwise, our testers will try it themselves and usually make note of what they think. That said, I’ve also seen some user reports preferring the CX400BTs so it’s definitely something we have to keep in mind. I’m going to share all of this information with our team for future consideration as you’ve definitely brought up some good points. Thank you so much once again for taking the time to share your thoughts with us!
If you ever have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out! :)
Hi Cjcairns76,
Thanks so much for taking the time to share you thoughts with us, I really appreciate it.
I’m going to share this information with out team, but I was also wondering if there were specific parts of the review you disagree with as it will make it easier to assess the situation! :)
Thanks for the reply. There is not really a specific part per se that I can point to. I have not tried a lot of headphones and am by no means an audiophile. I would like to think that reviewing headphones would be far more difficult than reviewing tv’s vacuums etc. Sound is subjective and different people like different sound profiles. Some prefer heavy bass or heavy treble and that also is influenced by the genre of music they listen to. If I recall, the Samsung buds plus scored higher than the Apple Airpods pro. You have stated that the airpods pro are better than the cx400bt and although you didn’t compare them, one would assume that the buds plus are even better. Before purchasing any electronics, especially headphones, I scour the internet for as many reviews as I can along with coming here to rtings. I read anything from consumer reviews (Amazon, Best Buy, electronic retailer sites) as well as many professional reviewers whether it be a written article or youtube video. Almost everywhere but here the cx400bt’s were preferred over the buds plus and airpods and I have been able to spend enough time with them to confirm that. I assume that you use sound testing equipment to get data for these headphone reviews.. One suggestion that I brought up on your FB page recently would be to have a more human approach to reviewing headphones. Have some of the staff try them out for a few days and then give a small write up describing and comparing their experience with them. Like I said before, sound is subjective. Although I really like the buds plus (good battery life, low latency, small case, more compact) , my go to headphones for music listening will now be the cx400bt’s (sound quality, comfort) . Thanks again
You would be better buying last years RU8000. As its due to be replaced its quite cheap at the moment. Look for an 02 version as it has a much better AUO panel. (90% colour gamut vs 85% from the 01 version that has a lower contrast samsung panel)
In Canada the ru8000 has a Ca02 version. Was told that was a tcl panel
Maybe rtings can retest the motion after the update.
Has motion been an issue with this tv?

I am wondering if the judder problem is limited to the 120hz panels (55” and up) as I am interested in the 50” model (60hz)
Is that the company that makes panels for TCL?
