Sur La Table Touchscreen 2-Slice Toaster Toaster Review

Tested using Methodology v1.0

The Sur La Table Touchscreen 2-Slice Toaster is a touch-screen toaster with settings for different types of bread, from pastries to English muffins. Its screen displays a cycle countdown clock, so you always know when your toast will be ready. Its slots are wide enough for thick slices but aren't that deep when pushed down, so anything taller than white sandwich bread sticks out the top. On the flip side, they lift up high enough to grab even small pieces without burning yourself.

Our Verdict

7.6 Toasting

The Sur La Table Touchscreen 2-Slice Toaster is good. You can get golden brown sandwich bread with one of the preset modes, and it browns the entire surface of the bread evenly. However, its highest shade setting isn't enough to char white sandwich bread, so you'll have to run another cycle if you're toasting denser or thicker bread. Unlike most toasters, you're limited to 7 shade presets since it doesn't have a dial that you can use to set between presets. It browns the outer face of the bread more than the inner face. However, both slots perform similarly, producing similar results batch after batch.

Pros
  • Consistent performance batch after batch.
  • Cycle countdown indicators.
Cons
  • Toasts lightly.
  • Toasts outer face more.
  • 7.6 Toasting

Differences Between Sizes And Variants

The Sur La Table Touchscreen 2-Slice Toaster comes in one stainless steel variant. You can see the label for the unit we tested here.

If you encounter another variant, let us know in the forums, and we'll update our review.

Compared To Other Toasters

The Sur La Table Touchscreen 2-Slice Toaster is a modern-looking toaster with touch-screen controls, like the Revolution InstaGLO R180. However, unlike that model, it still has a physical lever to push down the bread instead of an on-screen button. It's also lighter, which is nice if you want to store it on a shelf or in a cupboard when not in use. However, none of its presets char white sandwich bread, so the Revolution is a better choice if you usually toast denser or thicker bread. This toaster also has shallow slots, so taller pieces of bread can stick out the top. Check out the BELLA Classics 2 Slice Toaster if you need deeper slots.

This toaster has a touchscreen and offers a wider variety of modes and settings than most. There are different programs for different types of baked goods: Bread, Bagel, Waffle, Pastry, and English Muffin. You separately select the shade you want (1-7). There's a 'Defrost' (frozen) setting for thawing and toasting things like frozen waffles and a 'Single' button that heats one slot when you're only making one slice. The digital display shows a countdown clock, so you know when your toast is about to pop up. The power button doubles as the cancel cycle button on this toaster.
