Audio settings over EARC

I am noticing when it is set to “auto” that it is only outputting pcm/stereo from a lot of the built in apps unless it’s Atmos? If I set it to Dolby digital/+ it works, but shouldn’t auto output in a surround format as well for something like Reacher on prime?
