Test Methodology

As always, our test methodologies depend on your feedback to improve. We expect our microwave Test Bench 1.0 to cover what most people want to know when shopping for microwaves, but it doesn't cover everything, and our efforts might not be aligned with exactly what matters to you.

Our test methodology and results for microwave performance are little different from other products we review. While we have published results for 'Shallow Dish Heating Uniformity' and 'Deep Dish Heating Uniformity', the results show that there is no noticeable difference between different microwaves for heating evenness. We've included the results to show our work and so that you can see the data for yourself. However, we haven't assigned scores to or recommended any microwave based on these tests. Instead, recommendation are based on aspects that do vary from microwave to microwave: power, size, and features.

If you want to know more about how we came to the conclusion that all microwaves perform similarly, you can read about our investigation here. We also concluded that inverters don't change microwave performance except in very specific situations, which you can read all about here

If you have any suggestions about how to improve our microwave reviews, we encourage you to either leave a comment on any page or email us at feedback@rtings.com. None of the tests on our website would be as good as they are now without your help!
