Follow-up on Dolby Vision post. How big a deal for Samsung to NOT have dolbyvision? If I’m watching Disney+ on a Samsung, what is the practical difference and what is it defaulting to? Thanks!

I returned mine. They should of did more testing before they released the updates. I’m saving my money for a tv next year. Hopefully they work through their issues.

Does the blur matter to a user who is going to primarily watch netflix and hulu sports? (No gaming). Wondering if I should get the X90ch 85 inch from costco at $1999 or get the Q80T for $2999 because of this blur issue.

This only matters for video games and pc uses. Mostly pc. If you are buying a tv for movie watching the 900h is better than the 80t.

You should wait a few months. Your budget is high enough that you can afford a new 2021 tv. Those tvs should be better equipped for the new systems giving you more options.

I’ve done waaaaay too much research for my new TV and went from wanting a Q80T to the X900H as going by rtings figures the brightness is roughly the same in peak and sustained on average but the X900H has Dolby Vision. Could care less about HDMI 2.1 (I’m primarily a PC gamer). Have been keeping an eagle on eye on firmware releases and all the associated problems affecting the X900H (reboots, blurry 120Hz) and just don’t want to deal with that especially considering the price ($3K AU). I had paid for a 75" X900H and was awaiting delivery and walked into the store to cancel it and was drawn like a moth to a flame to the X950H. Watching a high bitrate Sony demo showing the X950H next to the X900H made it clear - it’s the X950H for me. Everything looks about the same between the two in terms of colour accuracy and contrast BUT the X950H HDR highlights made me physically smile and utter the words “woah dude”. The image quality in the demo video was significantly better to my eyes in terms of sharpness as well. Ended up getting the X950H instead (man did I teach Sony a lesson :p) and can’t wait for it to be delivered. Re gaming, I might hook up an old gaming rig with an Nvidia 1080 and just framelock it to 60fps and enable fastsync. I can more than happily live with that for driving, fighting and RPG / adventure games (friends don’t let friends play FPS’s with a joypad). Good luck to all the X900H owners. I’m sure Sony will fix it. Issue though is all the stress it’s causing customers. Surely isn’t worth it from a reputation point of view. Sony could at least put out a statement to rtings, Quantum and HDTVTest to ease peoples minds. That statement they gave Vincent is just ridiculous. There’s no hardware limitations on that chip. It’s a quad core at a high clockrate. Lesser chips can do 4K 120Hz with VRR no problems. Also i have loved watching all three review channels - rtings is to the point, quantum is a legend and Vincent is my spirit animal.

Where is scott1174 when you need him. Quantum is a legend? Haha

I heard the vrr wasn’t working yet, It is still coming via update. Is it enabled?

Here’s a scott post. Bragging about his tcl from 2019 So TCL R625 VS R635 So looks like according to rtings review the R625 2019 is way better then the R635.

The black uniformity sucks on the R635

The graidant sucks on the R635.

Local Dimming sucks on the R635

Game response on the R635 is worse then the R625. Alot worse.

Wow this is shocking. Thank God I got the R625. However, other reviewers like Caleb from Digital Trends gave it a pretty good rating. I would take the average of all the reviews folks. However I believe all panels are different so. It’ won’t run at 120hz@4k because lack of HDMI 2.1.. Also for people that don’t know for e/arc to work your connected devices need to have e/arc as well. So if your receiver isn’t e/arc capable then your shit out of luck.

It’s a disappointing year other than a few models. Hisense and tcl seem to be the better buy. Vizio seems to be a bit of a mess right now. Maybe they call this the 2021 series because it isn’t going to work right until some time next year.

If you read the thread, they claim Samsung’ pushing for a firmware update on September. Will it get fixed or not, noone knows, Samsung doesn’t really communicate

What about the M series? They are everywhere and one of the few affordable TV with HDMI 2.1. I’d love to see a review as i plan to make a 50" my computer monitor.
