Hi tentes
We also noticed this with our unit. Here is a screenshot of the Frequency Response comparing ANC on and ANC Off. Link
Cheers,

Thanks Dagobiet! Good to know I got basic hearing ability. The bad thing is my EQ setting cannot favor both modes. Technics app should let us create 2 custom EQ.
When using ANC or ambient mode, the amount of bass is noticably less than OFF. Is this intended behaviour?
Depends on the type of music. From my personal experience, for pop-sentimental songs, seems to be true. For EDM/house bass seems more with ANC or ambient mode. My experience might not reflect what others are experiencing😉
The original XL ear tips were a bit loose fitting for me. Could never get a proper seal on my left ear so, I replaced them with XL Spinfit W1 ear tips. I never knew what I was missing. Now I’m getting the full sub bass experience plus treble extension on ‘Direct’ EQ and Ambient Sound Control set to ‘off’. AZ80 rocks💪
Thankyou for the detailed response, it’s much appreciated.
I picked up the AZ80, Momentum 4 and Status Between 3ANC. I really wanted to like the momentums but ended up preferring the AZ80. I couldn’t get the momentums to match the bass and clarity of the AZ80 even with personalisation. Between 3ANC had slightly better sound than the AZ80 though, and I’m not sure which one to keep. Do you have any thoughts on this?
No worries! I’m very happy to help. In terms of deciding between the AZ80 and the 3ANC, it’s a particularly tough call. For me, the points of departure are really the differences in look/fit. The 3ANC have that “Terminator” look going on which sticks out from your ear. I don’t find them as comfortable to wear over long periods of time for that reason. They also have a slightly emphasized bass response and are definitely more bass-heavy than then Technics. I imagine the Superbass + preset would take them into similar territory though.
It’s also up to whether you think the Technics’ added perks are worth the additional outlay. For me personally, the improved ANC and Bluetooth 3-way multipoint are worth the extra $100 or so over the 3ANC. But if you really like the sound of the 3ANC then that’s worth its weight in gold. It’s easy to get lost in the sauce of the data we collect, but our sound profile test scores should serve as a guide more than anything . Ultimately, if you think certain earbuds sound great, then that has the most inherent value to you and you should trust your gut.
We’ve just released a new video featuring the Technics EAH-AZ80 True Wireless here.
Thanks for the review! I have one question… Did you guys enable “JustMyVoice” in the app before testing the microphone pickup quality of the AZ80’s?
