I agree. The A95L is great at movies but falls behind the “outdated” woled in game mode for $5000. The Samsung S90D/S95D is great in game mode (for consoles anyway, reports of VRR not working with nvidia cards which are 80+ percent of PC market) but falls behind in every other category and even behind cheap TCLs in processing for $3500. The G4 does it ALL excellently. Movies, Games, Streaming, PC Monitor all with a no burn in guarantee for 5 years for $3500 but it’s a bad value? Rtings even warns people not to use QD-OLED for sports, PC, or static images. The people I’ve talked to in person while making this purchase decision seem to understand that as well. Discerning customers will choose the better product or, like in your anecdote, choose the wrong product then learn and switch haha! QD-OLED is great. I’d love to have it. But not on a junk TV. The G4 is a stellar TV at a great price with the tried-n-true done to perfection. It fulfills every one of this article’s categories excellently but each category has a heavily silo’d product that does that one specific thing better.
Many other reviewers are preferring the G4 for this very reason (such as Digital Trends) because QD-OLED is a gimmick. It looks great on paper but when put side by side in a blind test people can’t tell the difference (HDTVTest 2024 Shootout). Rtings is a numbers reviewer though and, as I learn more and more as I get older, numbers on paper are meaningless. They can’t define human experience. If they did, Android would have market dominance instead of Apple. Another point that Digital Trends points out is that on these TVs numbers are meaningless because TVs use dynamic processing and static images will give you different results than dynamic image tests.
Put simply: People who review TVs by putting them in their house and using them tend to prefer the G4. People who review TVs by hooking machines up to them and taking measurements tend to prefer Samsung/Sony.
Another thing I noticed, if you go to RTINGS own review pages and average out the scores you get S95D: 9.08, S90D: 9.13, A95L: 9.20 G4: 9.25. Even RTINGS, for whom numbers are everything, says the LG is better than the Sony for cheaper and better than the Samsungs. This website is a mess lol. And I’m not trying to dunk on RTINGS. I come here first whenever I’m researching a new product, but there are some issues with this year’s TV reviews lol.
I agree thank you for that, I do the same I go to Rtings.com as a start. I also placed the numbers together and the G4 is in first place. And then I have them in the real world. The G4 is just fantastic.
I’ve replaced 3 A95L models this year for people to a G4. All find them better.
If the G4 was the 2024 new version of the A95L by Sony it would be named number one.
I’m sure the site will come up with a reason why the G4 isn’t good enough. Yet I’m pleased to see in a real life test that the A95L doesn’t beat the G4.
Again to stop being banned or attacked by the “super image chip” of the Sony fans. Please remember that most haven’t seen the A95L or the G4 other than in a shop or from others reviews telling them. Enjoy the rest of 2024 everyone.
Thanks for your feedback. We have the BRAVIA 9 as our best bright room TV on most of our lists because it’s one of the brightest TVs on the market, and it also looks incredible in a dark room. With that said, we almost always mention TVs like the U8N as a cheaper alternative to the Bravia 9.
It really comes down to the G4 vs the A95L for our best home theater picks, but the QD-OLED panel on the A95L delivers significantly more vibrant and brighter colors and it’s a more accurate TV than the G4, so it edges out the G4 for someone looking for the best home theater option on the market. We don’t make picks to show we’re against one brand or another. Our picks are mostly informed by our test results. The G4 is still an amazing TV, and if you’re looking for an 83-inch model, we think it’s the best TV available.
So you don’t include the G4 over value but totally over look the Bravia 9 and A95L cost?
Also I said the G4 is best all rounder. The A95L is great for movies but for gaming, TV shows, apps it falls behind the G4.
It does not make sense you don’t pick the G4 over cost yet the Bravia 9 is fine.
Again my opinion but the logic over cost/value going against the G4 yet is fine over the Sony models.
It be the same for the new Sony Bravia theater bar 9 and sub. Which is twice as much as the 990D and the LG S95TR. Yet will be fine for its cost/value again.
Technically, yes, but we take price into account when making our picks and the G4 simply isn’t worth the price difference for most users.
But you don’t take into account the A95L cost when it always is placed first.
And the G4 has dropped in price. Also the G4 is never picked in any of your picks in all categories other than the “Best LG”. The UK has the 65G4 for around £2,250. The A95L around £2,700.
I enjoy your site but it has turned into a repeat of the same winners all the time. Its, S90D, A95L and Bravia 9.
What doesn’t add up with your “cost of the G4” line is the total over price of the Bravia 9 and A95L that is never dropped for your picks.
Like if you have an “overall TV” pick the G4 should win. Yet you just don’t want the G4 to be on any of the picks. You place the C4 and B4 lower down the picks as way to show you not against the LG brand. Yet outside the TV review sites the G4 is the star.
What I have heard (personally) the TV and Soundbar is not very good.
I like you looked at the G4 and S95TR. And the TV sound was not very different.
I did the S90D and 990D and again was not very different.
In the end I felt the G4 and the 990D was really good. Yet also the G4 with the 930D was not a lot different. So my opinion is don’t worry about using the same make on TV and Soundbar.
Hey there,
I’m just following up.
I definitely encourage you to take a listen to both and let your ears and needs decide. I’ll add that we haven’t tested the LG specifically using the WOW Orchestra feature with an LG TV. That said, I’d temper my expectations with the WOW Orchestra, as when we have tried using a TV’s speakers with a soundbar (other brands do this too), it doesn’t always make a notable enough difference.
Hi there,
The Samsung HW-Q990D and LG S95TR are both great choices. That said, if you’re already in the LG ecosystem, then the S95TR may have a slight edge since you’ll be able to use features like WOW Orchestra to help boost the bar’s sound.
Thank you I am going to have a listen to them both. Which reviews of the WOW Orchestra were published.
What about it overall the G4 wins. What about how weak the A95L is for colour in gaming against the G4.
I used the scores of here and added them together for what relates to my viewing needs. I then go see them with my sort list.
is this your recoomendation for best tv even with lg g4 and s95d? whats the best movie tv
I’ve checked both and if you never used the TV for anything else than movies the A95L is great. But as almost everyone will watch TV, Netflix etc the G4 Is better. Also the G4 is cheaper and kill the A95L in gaming. So the A95L may win one point for movies. But the G4 for steaming, movies, TV and gaming is better..
It’s definitely an interesting idea, and something we’ll be sure to consider moving forward. We just can’t make any guarantees at this time. Sorry about that!
That’s OK just an idea as the TV and soundbar together isn’t given much consideration.
I was wondering if a new test on soundbars and the TV screen could be done.
As with the S95tr and LG G4/C4 or the 990D with the S95D/90D.
This would be great as if like me you about to get the G4C4 then it would show if the S95tr improved when connected. I’m still waiting for the full review on the S95tr as it looks like it’s improved over the s95qr. It can then go on my sort list to go test like the 990D.
LG G4 best tv even with the big push for Sony 9. Like the Samsung S90C being better than the G4. It’s only from all the reviewers Sony, then Samsung and the odd LG.
I’ve not seen the Sony 9 but the G4 looks so much better than the A95L. Some one I know has got the G4 to replace the A95L.
And the S90c over the G4 is nowhere as close. The C4 looks so much better.
How come this full review/early access is taking so long. It’s been in the lab early than the Sony tv’s (as always pushed) yet they been tested. Very disappointing as I am like others want to know about this soundbar. The LG soundbar was in the lab 7th May?
I am hearing from G4 owners (UK) of a fault on No#2 HDMI. With LG offering to send out tech guy to fix it. Did you have any issues with that or other HDMI ports?.
I am exactly at same point with you. my TV isC3. Lets see the test results. If there is no big difference, keen to go with s95tr.
Hi yes I’ve been disappointed with LG not giving us a great top spec soundbar. I’ve a LG soundbar and rears and would love to keep an LG soundbar to go with my planned G4 or G3 this summer.
LG know who to beat Samsung 990C. So I’m hoping they not only listened to the feedback on the G3 (improved on G4) but also with the S95QT
It is on my list but somehow LG don’t do great top spec soundbars. The 990C killed the older model. I’d love to get the 95tr to go with a new G4 but Samsung is still likely to be under the G4.
If you’re not wall mounting, the cost/availability of that annoying tilted stand was the key factor that held me back from buying a G3. Which I’m now glad I did. G4 will be this year’s Black Friday purchase.
I’m going to mount it so the G3 or G4 will be great.
It’s great to have the full review up. I did hope the G4 would be a little bigger jump over the G3. So with the rating very close it may fall (for me) on the following.
Cost is a £1,000 plus over the G3 = G3 wins.
The tech is better than the G3 = G4 wins.
The 5 years jump (improvements) = G4 wins.
The both cost the same I would pick = G4.
So as I’m jumping from a B9 if the cost was same I’d pick the G4. As they not it would make sense to get the G3.
The other factor… I’m not buying for a month or so. Which may bring the G4 down a little.
Hey! just measured the cord on our unit and it was 2.2 meters! not sure if it’s exactly the same in the UK, but it should be pretty close. Hope that helps!
Well as always your rating makes the next step some what easier for me.
I’m still a few weeks away from a new LG 65" G4/G3. The difference is not as big as I expected. Others saying about the image and new chip etc. Here we have the numbers on both models.
It be interesting once the full review is up on the G4 what it’s like in full against the G3.
As it stands late April 2024 the difference is just over a £1,000 between them. Which is a lot for the small difference. Maybe the G4 will drop a little. I’ve a total I’ll not go over on any TV. So if the G4 gets within that amount I’ll go for it over the G3. I’ve had my B9 a few years and like the soundbar is all being replaced this year.
After late last year seeing (hands on) with the best models I’m still fixed on the G3. Seeing the over priced A95L, poor S95C, the G3 for me won. I also feel that the past 12 months a lot have pushed the S90c and A95L (even with the massive price and limited HDMI). The S90C was the bargain to buy, yet now the G3 is dropped it’s a better bargain. I reviewed all with how it looked for me and not the cost. So even if the Sony was the same price as the G3 I’d pick the G3. Again all my opinion with my eyes.
I wonder if that will happen again this year. Its like they don’t like LG. Yet now the G4 is being pushed but let’s see how that pans out over the coming months. I used the ratings form this site to score what mattered to me. That gave me the short list. I so them and got my best TV. That leads to this year and the G4 being better than the G3 for me. But I will be looking again at the G3 then the G4.
Both are great and I’ve seen both and others in this class.
I’m set to go for a G3 65" (£1500) which is a great price. But holding on to see the G4. The first review came in today and it’s good. But not as better as I wanted for the G4. But still hoping for Rtings review gives it a big jump in upscale.
I’ve tested the following in later 2023. But didn’t do the Sony as I feel its to expensive and is pushed as the best. I found other sites would hit the G3 over cost, yet never say cost of the Sony.
For me…
1st G3.
2nd C3.
3rd S90C.
4th S95C.
Again I did a chart using Rtings rating that fitted what was important to me. And the G3 came top.
So really I know what I should get and it’s the G3.
As always thank you for you knowladge and testing Rtings.
I’ve done some viewing of these and others. It’s likely to fall to cost/make.
I don’t do Sony but the A95L is a great image. It just don’t give a jump in image for the price. My best TV for me is the LG G3 but you not looking at them. So….
The LG C3 is a great all rounder both games and movies. And it up scales better than the Samsung S90C.
The Samsung S90C looks good in a light room. Yet I feel most would not watch a film in a bright room. As for it being better for gaming over the C3? I so no difference in my view. I did not like the menu on the Samsung over the C3.
I’ve not done any viewings of the Sony A80L as I’m not a fan as over priced.
My list for best TV of 2023 are..
LG G3.
LG C3.
Samsung S90C.
I felt the Samsung S95C was not better than the S90C. So the difference in cost makes the S90C a better buy in my opinion.
On a side note over TVs of 2024..
I expect LG to keep the MLA on the G series and a new chip that will push its upscaling/image up with the Sony A95L. The C series may have the new chip but not as powerful as the G series one. And without the MLA screen. I would expect LG to push the G series as a bigger jump in technology over the C series as both models are becoming to close.
Samsung I don’t know. Sony may possibly not have a new A95 model and keep the A95L as its best model.
Anyway all the models you interested in are great. It’s been interesting this year as the Samsung models have been pushed endlessly. Yet I often look at the Black Friday etc time to see what the public have been buying. And I’m seeing a lot of Samsung models discounted. Yet LG are very quite in the sales. Make what you want from that.
For me I’d go for LG 65C3 over the Samsung S90C. But I’m more movies than games (60% movies, 30% gaming, 10% TV). After seeing all my listed screens I found the LG did better up scaling, Dolby Atmos. As it stands my budget gives me a bit more choice. So in order of best for ME.
Maybe check the LG C3 or if you want to spend more the LG G3. Both LG’s and the Sony do great jobs on upscale of lower quality image. But its about cost (Sony) V S90C (cheaper) in my opinion.
Well in my case without hearing the soundbars it would not.
Seen the screens with my own eyes and no Samsung screen will stop me getting the G3 or C3. Which model is down to cost at this point.
LG UK have offered great discount on the screens and 50% the S95QR soundbar. Yet my next part of the testing is the soundbars.
As it stands without hearing them and keeping under £2,5000 on both just on price it falls like this. And without asking others about price match etc.
LG 65C3 & HW-Q930C.
LG 65C3 & S95QR.
LG 65G3 & HW-Q930C.
The G3 is great yet other than in very dark images (like the film Dune) the difference was very much like the C3. In gaming the G3 was better but the C3 looked fantastic as well. The C3 looked fantastic on everything. And the G3 made me “think” it must be better. Which brings me to the question. Is it pride/wanting making me want the G3? Which then askes myself “£400 more for the G3”, I really know my answer. Sorry off topic.
As it stands on price difference with the soundbars.
The S95QR is just over £100 more than the HW-Q930C. And the HW-Q990C being £200 more than the S95QR. Which makes the HW-990C for me like the G3 as in pride/wanting/cost over logic.
So in short the HW-Q930C v S95QR are the soundbars. Which means the C3 will be the screen to go with 1 of these soundbars.
Hi thank you, yes my current system is not tested so can’t really judge it. As I’ve said before I’m holding on for the review of the HW-Q930C. Then I can use your wonderful comparison tool against my other shortlist.
I watch a good amount in DA and DTS (I am also upgrading my LG55B9 to a LG55C3, as it has all DTS out and my B9 is getting good prices second-hand).
Music wise I listen to music with a kind of 5.1 (all speakers) with the LG on movie mode. I was left upset with the new LG S95QR reviews with music. That’s why I moved to the HW-Q990C/B. I am also looking at the HW-Q930B and it looks good allrounder and cheaper.
Question does the HW-Q930B have up firing rear speakers. I’ve placed that in your wonderful compare against the HW-Q990C/B but I’m still split on which to go for.
I watch only 4K/HD on general TV programmes and streaming companies. And use it for gaming with Xbox series X. So i use best image and sound available.
What is your advise on the following with what I’ve said about how and what I watch please. I would say the split in movies and music is movies 60%, music 40%. As you or no one has reviews on the HW-Q930C I cant place that in the mix. My choice in order with how they price is here in UK. And how much better will any be over my current set up of the LG.
HW-Q990B - £1,000.
HW-Q930B - £680. (HW-Q930C - £700), The HW-Q930 models are the bargains I think and don’t know if £300 plus will give that much better performance.
HW-Q990C - £1,200.
LG S95QR - £1,000.
I’ve not seen any issues with the G4 models.
I agree thank you for that, I do the same I go to Rtings.com as a start. I also placed the numbers together and the G4 is in first place. And then I have them in the real world. The G4 is just fantastic.
Once again thank you for a real review.
G4 is best TV of 2024.
G4 is cheaper than the A95L.
G4 is cheaper than the Bravia 9.
The A95L isn’t a 2024 model.
The best overall TV is the G4.

This is my opinion.

I see so why is it mentioned if its not a issue and was on your model. Its pushing some from purchasing the C4.
Have you tried more than the one you tested? As I’ve seen 5 C4 models with zero o green.

Me too
OK thank you
Thank you I am going to have a listen to them both. Which reviews of the WOW Orchestra were published.
That’s interesting how is it with music and films. I’m looking at getting g it with my new LG G4 or C4. And how is it using the TV speakers too.
My head is saying get the Samsung 990D, my heart wants the S95TR.
What about it overall the G4 wins. What about how weak the A95L is for colour in gaming against the G4. I used the scores of here and added them together for what relates to my viewing needs. I then go see them with my sort list.
The G4 wins.
I also look at it this way…
If the G4 was a Sony A95M (2024 Model).
The A95L was the G4.
The Sony Bravia 9 was a LG C4.
The winner would be…
The G4.
Then..
A95L split with the C4.
I don’t just think the G4 is best as it’s a LG.
A95L one v G4 four.

OK yet the Sony sound system still jumped over the S95tr. Anyway thanks for the answer.

I’ve heard the rear speakers are right and left channels for true rear surround. I look forward to seeing the review.
The C4 and G3 are close, that’s what I love about this site. It gives you the numbers then you go look at the ones you interested in.
Great work Rtings.
It is on my list but somehow LG don’t do great top spec soundbars. The 990C killed the older model. I’d love to get the 95tr to go with a new G4 but Samsung is still likely to be under the G4.

And I’ve yet to see the G4.
The story continues.
Thank you I’m sure it the same.
How long is the power lead on the G4 (UK). As want yo place power socket and make sure the G4/G3 is flush with the wall.
The G3 is better than any C model. With the price drop on the G3 it’s better than the C4 in price and technology. In my opinion.
Well as always your rating makes the next step some what easier for me.
I’m still a few weeks away from a new LG 65" G4/G3. The difference is not as big as I expected. Others saying about the image and new chip etc. Here we have the numbers on both models.

As always great help from Rtings review.
It’s on my possible replacement list for this year.
Both are great and I’ve seen both and others in this class.

Dune (2021) or 13 Hours (2016).
I think you can use LG SPQ8-S rear speakers. I don’t think any others work.
OK just an idea is it down to cost as well.
Maybe look for a make the same as TV they have now. That may help with the remote control.
Maybe look at cheaper soundbars as they are normally not good with bass. And more tiny in sound.
That’s my opinion for starters.
Oh right UK is £1,500 good luck
For me I’d go for LG 65C3 over the Samsung S90C. But I’m more movies than games (60% movies, 30% gaming, 10% TV). After seeing all my listed screens I found the LG did better up scaling, Dolby Atmos. As it stands my budget gives me a bit more choice. So in order of best for ME.
LG 65G3. LG 65C3. Samsung S90C. Samsung S95c.
Thanks
Thank you and hurry up and get the 930C tested.
As always thanks.
Thank you I’m looking forward to your review on HW-Q930C.
OK cool thank you
Thank you
Hi thank you for the feedback.
LG S95QR - £1,000.
thanks and keep this great site going.
