Best 6-Quart Air Fryers

If you're shopping for an air fryer, you've likely encountered several 6-quart models. This popular size is ideal for serving three to five people, depending on the dish being prepared, and most manufacturers produce at least one air fryer with a capacity of around this size. If you've already decided that a 6-quart model is right for you, the next thing to look for is a basket with a large surface area. We recommend at least 50 in², as it provides sufficient space to spread food out in a single layer for optimal airflow. You should also look for a model with a high power draw, so it can recover quickly after you open the drawer, and a wide range of fan speeds; a low fan speed is great for dehydrating, proofing dough, and baking, while a high speed helps make food crispier faster.

We've tested more than 40 air fryers, and 18 of those have a capacity of about 6 quarts. Below is our recommendation for the best 6-quart air fryers. To provide you with more options, we've included models slightly above or below the 6-quart range. If you're unsure about the best size for you, you can compare the best 4-quart air fryers, the best 8-quart air fryers, the best small air fryers, or the best large-capacity air fryers.

  1. Best 6-Quart Air Fryer

The best 6-quart air fryer we've tested is the Ninja Air Fryer Pro XL AF181, a compact model with a smaller countertop footprint than other models of similar capacity. Despite its small size, there's enough surface area in its cooking chamber to arrange food in a single layer for better results, and it has more vertical space than other 6-quart models, which is handy when you want to air fry foods with a bit more height, like stuffed peppers, chicken leg quarters, or bakery-style muffins. This air fryer cooks incredibly quickly, making decent-quality fried food faster than any other option on this list. While it leaves a sizable portion of each batch undercooked, you can use its 'Max Crisp' setting for a higher temperature and faster fan speed.

This model provides plenty of versatility, making it a great choice if you want to use your air fryer for more than just air frying. It can reach a wide range of temperature settings and fan speeds, and offers six distinct cooking modes, including 'Dehydrate,' 'Roast,' and 'Bake.' The air fryer employs its lowest fan speed for dehydrating, so light items don't blow around the cooking chamber, and it has a medium fan speed for baking, so your cookies and cakes don't dry out. It also maintains a very stable temperature throughout the cooking process, helping food cook more evenly and making it easier to follow recipes accurately.

  2. Best Upper Mid-Range 6-Quart Air Fryer

If you're willing to sacrifice a bit of speed to save some cash, consider the Ninja Max XL AF161. Although its rounded design differentiates it from the Ninja Air Fryer Pro XL AF181, these two Ninja air fryers have a lot in common. Like the AF181, this model has a tall cooking chamber, making it a good choice for foods that require more vertical space. While it has less surface area in its basket than most 6-quart air fryers, there's still enough room to spread food out for proper airflow and crispier results. While it can't match the cooking speed of our top pick, it comes very close, outperforming most other air fryers in this regard. It makes good-quality fried food, cooking evenly, so most of each batch comes out crispy and golden brown.

It's an impressively versatile air fryer, too. Like our top pick, it offers a wide range of temperature and fan speed settings, with a top fan speed that's slightly faster. It features seven preset cooking modes, like 'Dehydrate,' 'Reheat,' and 'Air Broil,' so you can use it to make many different kinds of recipes. The temperature doesn't fluctuate much while cooking, either, so it's easy to follow recipes accurately.

  3. Best Mid-Range 6-Quart Air Fryer

The Ninja Pro AF141 is the best 6-quart air fryer we've tested at a mid-range price point. This model has a short cooking chamber, so there may not be enough space for cupcakes or quick breads to rise, but it's wide, with plenty of space to arrange food in a single layer for proper airflow. As a result, when you cook air fryer staples like French fries, wings, and veggies, most of each batch comes out evenly cooked and crispy. It cooks very quickly, too, so you don't have to wait long for your food to finish cooking.

This model isn't quite as versatile as the Ninja Max XL AF161: it doesn't get as hot, its slowest fan speed is a bit faster, and it only has four preset cooking modes: 'Air Fry,' 'Roast,' 'Reheat,' and 'Dehydrate.' Still, this allows you to cook a pretty wide variety of recipes. It also maintains a more stable temperature than either of the pricier Ninja models above, allowing for even cooking and making it very easy to follow recipes precisely.

  4. Best Budget 6-Quart Air Fryer

The COSORI TurboBlaze is the best air fryer in this size range we've tested at a budget-friendly price. This model is about the same size as the Ninja Pro AF141, but it provides a larger surface area to work with, making it easier to spread food out in a single layer. This extra space, combined with its relatively high maximum power draw and fan speed, helps it produce very good-quality fried food. Each batch of French fries, chicken nuggets, or cauliflower you air fry comes out mostly crispy and golden brown, with just a small handful either over- or undercooked. Thanks to its range of temperature settings, fan speeds, and preset cooking modes, this is also an extremely versatile option, so it's a great choice if you do a lot of baking or plan to use your air fryer as a dehydrator.

It cooks impressively fast but can't match the Ninja AF141's speed, and it takes a little longer than average to preheat. It also takes a while to reheat after you open the basket to add food, and even then, the temperature continues to fluctuate throughout the cooking process. As we discovered while researching our Air Fryer Buying Guide, this is actually because its top speed is a bit too fast since air passes over the heating element too quickly to heat up properly. Still, this doesn't have a massive impact on results, and while you can't change the fan settings manually, the corresponding fan speed for each preset cooking mode is listed in the manual, making it easier to experiment with different settings.

  5. Best Cheap 6-Quart Air Fryer

If you're looking for the best 6-quart air fryer available at the most affordable price, consider the Beautiful 6qt Digital. For less than $70 USD, this model nearly matches both the frying performance and speed of the COSORI TurboBlaze. Air frying results in three-quarters of each batch coming out crispy, while a smaller portion remains undercooked, and just one or two pieces wind up burnt. It takes just a moment longer than the COSORI to cook, but it preheats faster, so in the end, it produces results in about the same amount of time. Additionally, it maintains a more stable cooking temperature, making it easier to follow recipes accurately.

The primary tradeoff for this model is that it's less versatile than pricier options. While it's still a decently versatile model with an excellent minimum temperature and fan speed, it doesn't get quite as hot as many options, and its maximum fan speed is disappointing. This makes it less suitable for alternate cooking methods, but if you're primarily planning to use it for air fryer classics like onion rings, wings, and crispy sides of broccoli, it's a solid choice. Additionally, it comes in a variety of colors, like 'Oyster Gray' and 'Lavender,' allowing you to find a variant that matches your style.

  6. Best Glass 6-Quart Air Fryer

The best 6-quart air fryer with a glass cooking chamber we've tested is the Ninja Crispi Pro AS101. It comes with two interchangeable glass containers (6 quarts and 2.5 quarts) that double as storage, so when you're finished cooking, you can simply store leftovers in the same container you used for cooking. Using the 6-quart container, this air fryer cooks very evenly, leaving most of each batch crispy and well-cooked. It takes longer than our top picks, including the Beautiful 6qt Digital, to reach this result, but using the smaller container significantly improves its cooking speed, which is convenient when you need a quick, crispy snack.

Thanks to its wide range of temperature and fan speed settings, this air fryer is also exceptionally versatile. It can reach low enough settings for dehydrating and proofing dough, as well as high enough settings for roasting or making extra crispy food. That said, its temperature stability is just adequate, so it can be trickier to follow recipes accurately.

  7. Best 6-Quart Air Fryer For Steak

If you're looking for a 6-quart air fryer for steak and other proteins, the Dreo ChefMaker is worth considering. It's a high-end model with a temperature probe and a misting function. Combined with Dreo's 'Chef Mode' and the companion app, these features let you cook steak, chicken breast, salmon fillets, and other cuts of meat to a specific internal temperature without drying them out. Essentially, you select the desired doneness for a cut of meat in the air fryer or on the app, and the air fryer uses the thermometer and mist function to complete the cooking process automatically. While these advanced features are the Dreo's main selling point, it also performs well for simpler tasks, like air frying. It produces good-quality fried food and cooks impressively fast.

Despite its extra features, this model is less versatile than other picks on this list. It has a wide temperature range and offers several preset cooking modes. However, its fan speed doesn't vary much, so it's not the best choice if you plan to do a lot of proofing, baking, or dehydrating. On the other hand, if your goal is to make crispy French fries (or perhaps even Steak Frites), the Dreo might be the right choice for you. Plus, it has a viewing window in the basket and a light in the cooking chamber, allowing you to monitor your recipes without letting heat escape.

  8. Best 6-Quart Air Fryer For Pizza

If you want a 6-quart air fryer with enough space for a 12-inch pizza, check out the Typhur Dome 2. It features a unique design with a short, wide basket that provides more surface area than most larger-capacity models, and two heating elements, one above the cooking chamber and one below. Typhur says this design is ideal for keeping pizza crusts crispy while melting cheese and browning toppings. Since this air fryer is so roomy, we decided to test it with our regular 250 g batch of fries plus a double batch. In both cases, it produces very good-quality fries, with most of each batch coming out crispy, and only a small portion being undercooked or burnt. It took quite a while to cook the double batch, but the regular batch of fries cooked decently fast.

This futuristic-looking air fryer also offers impressive versatility. It features 10 preset cooking modes, four preset modes for various food types, and a self-cleaning mode that uses high heat to remove grease. It also has a wide temperature range and a very low minimum fan speed. Unfortunately, its maximum fan speed is quite slow, which likely explains its somewhat slow cooking speed and why it takes so long to preheat and to reheat after you open the drawer to add food. With that in mind, it's still a solid option, especially if you want a model in this size range that can cook an entire pizza.

Notable Mentions

  • Ninja Speedi SF301:

The Ninja Speedi SF301 is less compact and more expensive than the COSORI TurboBlaze, but it offers better frying performance and cooks a little faster. Unfortunately, this model is being discontinued, but if you can find it available, it's a solid choice.
