Great that this is reviewed now, because I still haven’t found definitive information whether the Samsung 6-7 series this year are Edge lit or direct lit.
I’d love to hear about how it looks from 7.5 feet away for movies and TV shows. I plan to purchase this for cinema mostly. I would also love to hear about how gaming looks on it, specifically Switch games. The switch is my only console, but I plan to use it!
I would also like to hear advice about whether to buy it at the current Costco price of $479.99 (good until 11/17), or wait for a better deal on Black Friday. I’m not really sure whether that would be a mistake, for all I know it won’t go on sale for Black Friday at all, but I was just curious :D. Just in your opinion, what would be a good move?
I would also like to hear about how it compares to the other Costco 70 inchers (LG UT8000 and LG UR8000). Or if I should go for a different sized tv altogether to get a better blend of cinema experience and gaming.
Oh!!! Another good question is would a 70 inch TV from 7.5 feet away be good for gaming?? I was reading through your size guide, and it had actually said I could get away with a 75" tv if I’m 7.5 feet away and I intend to use the TV for cinema. So I figure 70 is a good compromise, because I’d like to do a little bit of mixed use other than cinema.
Though you never addressed gaming in your guide - what is the ideal field of view for gaming? You mentioned sports and cinema, but I didn’t see gaming!!!
Ok that’s all I can think about for now, thank you friend!!! I have to admit that in person in the store I was very impressed with the TV. But I have never owned a high quality TV above 1080p that wasn’t over 10 years old. So tbh I think any modern TV would blow me away. But ya this tv definitely blew me away!!! I want to buy it!

Would you be able to tell us the major differences between this model (DU6900) and the DU7200? Thanks!
So… today might be the day for a definitive answer on what I’ve been wondering for months. I even asked Samsung Support but they were sales so they had no idea. I don’t have insider access. Direct or edge, that’s all I need to know. I‘m looking forward

The full review won’t be posted until tomorrow at the earliest, but I’m happy to answer your question now. Sadly, it’s edge-lit.
Oof. What a letdown. But thank you very much for the reply, really appreciate it.
where did you buy the unit for this review? there isn’t a 65-inch DU6900 in the US, only in Canada. also, what is the model number of your unit?

It was purchased at Best Buy Canada. You can see the label for our unit here.

Best Buy has a 43-inch variant in the US known as the UN43DU6900FXZA. it’s unclear about other retailers carrying it, though.
This product has been merged with Samsung UN60DU6900 60" DU6900 Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV. Follow the discussion here.
