Yeah, yeah, “go buy a soundbar.” But you shouldn’t be practically required to because the inbuilt sound is so bad, especially on what is their flagship 4K TV.
The speakers are of course downward firing but it is just too noticeable. Need to do more to mitigate that.
Then you have 2 universal profiles before an equalizer - wall mount profile which sounds low resolution and has no treble, or stand installation, which is overloaded with treble and sounds sibilant on basic dialogue. Only a wimpy five band equalizer with limited control after that, the kind which does not have any real sculpting abilities. Oh and can’t use it on sound profiles either. The equalizer on phones they used to sell are literally better than this TV!
The AI acoustic tuning does very little too. The standard preset is restrained, whereas the base and treble ones are more noticeable, however the treble one again has a tendency to knock up the ugly treble region like 4000hz. And how much tuning do you really expect to be done in 8 seconds with a remote pointed in a non-specific manner. It’s so lacking.
I also feel there is a 3D DSP going on, something you cannot turn off. It’s distracting. Too much sense of fake space is just as bad as boxiness. And the virtual AI sound pro 7.1.2 mixing is frankly horrendous at times.
TV also only supports SBC codec if you want to use it with Bluetooth.
It’s like they didn’t give a 💩 after the actual panel was done. No Chromecast built in, app store with no ability to see reviews, like in addition to needing to buy a soundbar you need to buy a smart TV box. Maybe these things would be excusable on a low tier TV but not on the G2.
If Phillips and Panasonic sold their TVs in the US, I wouldn’t even be considering LG. They should thank them for not participating in the market.
