is the matte coating on this display good? is it noticably grainy/fuzzy on white or light colors? a weird kind of “sheen” or “grain” on the whole screen that is mainly only visible on white or mostly white screens, like on YouTube, or after opening a new tab. It’s sort of hard to explain. It also looks like there’s a thin film of Vaseline/oil on the screen, causing it to look smudgy. does it look like that for you?
Yeah, there definitely is a bit of sheen to it. It doesn’t look that bad to me, but it is worse than my previous monitor. Maybe I’ve gotten used to it now and it doesn’t bother me as much.
I just got this monitor yesterday and I will be returning it. The monitor I received did arrive with some internal issues, like glitching, weird static and going to a black screen randomly. But thats not the issue I have with it, if I liked it i would have swapped it out for a new one. The overall colors on this monitor are strange and all of the presets it has like FPS Mode or Creator Mode are awful. I know its an IPS panel and Ive had other IPS monitors before and not had issues like this, the contrast is horrible and the blacks on this monitor are truly grey. It’s hard to describe. The shadows and blacks are almost this matte grey, it’s very strange. When playing games it feels like there is this constant grey vignette around the screen that shouldn’t be there. I have a dell monitor that I have been using mainly for work/ editing with some gaming on the side, and that dell had way better blacks and contrast then this. Was looking to get a decent budget friendly monitor just to play games on in 1440p and a nice FPS… and going into it I wasn’t too worried about the color or picture quality, I knew what I was getting. But this was way worse then I could have thought, it’s unusable for me. And to be honest for a gaming monitor I can get past the IPS grey blacks.. the worst thing about this was the color, even after doing some manual calibration and looking at recommended settings it was always off in so many ways. I recommend spending the extra money to get something better because thats what I am doing! Also avoiding Asus after this..
Sounds like a defective unit with a lot a backlight bleed. My unit has great colors and decent contrast for an IPS. It even came pre-calibrated out of the box, so I find it unusual that your monitor has such terrible color accuracy. We’ll have to wait and see what the RTINGS review shows.
Having used this monitor for a few months now, I just wanted to point out that the anti-glare matte coating is a bit more noticeable than other monitors I’ve had in the past.
It’s not bothersome enough to be a problem and only appears under certain conditions, such as a white or light grey background. Some reviewers on Amazon have found it to be a massive dealbreaker and returned the monitor.
Hopefully RTINGS will be able to look into this further!
Bought the XG27ACS when it was on sale last month for $200 and I’ve been loving it so far. It’s much better than my previous monitor, the Asus VG27AQ.
Looking forward to RTINGS’ review so I can confirm that I’ve made the right choice!
