Do you plan to release a settings guide or profile for this monitor? would be great for people that bought this monitor thanks to your review
While you bring up a good point, we generally don’t recommend any settings besides the ones we mention in the review, and the other settings we leave at their default. Other than that, we suggest to choose whichever settings you prefer, because after all, you’ll be the one using the monitor :)

Could you tell if 20 Point RGB channels/white balance adjustment option is available under your testing mode (“Gaming” mode enabled, input set to “PC”, color space set to “Auto”)? Is it possible to achieve more precise calibration without a big signal latency penalty that way? It would have been AMAZING.
On the same note, does the input (signal processing) latency increase when displaying in 16:9 aspect ratio with games that don’t have a proper ultra wide format support and with consoles?
And finally, the “Graphic” (sRGB) image preset is unavailable in / incompatible with gaming mode, hence you going with a “Custom” preset for doing the color accuracy measurements, is that right?
I’m considering getting this for my PS5 with a prospect of upgrading to PC somewhere down the line so the color accuracy without software calibration and input latency with 16:9 aspect ratio are a big concern.
I’d be EXTREMELY thankful if you were able to clear those thing up for me! Thank you in advance anyway.
Question, I currently own this monitor, i was hoping figure out what “color tone” setting i should use for SDR desktop and gaming use, but your review doesn’t seem to mention it anywhere. i want accurate hardware colors, since games don’t use ICC profiles.
I currently have it set to Warm2, but tbh i have no clue how things are suppose look.
Question2, using the lagom website, i noticed that i can’t see the first three darkest squares on default game mode settings. i turned the “shadow details” setting up to 2, and that lets me see the darkest square. should i be adjusting this setting, or should i leave it on 0? your site also doesn’t seem to mention this setting.

Hey, these are great questions! Generally speaking, if we don’t mention a setting, it’s because we left them at their default. Choosing the best settings really is a personal preference, so you should adjust those settings until you find something you prefer :)
I have Xbox serie x that support HDMI and I would like buying that monitor between the neo G8 but the G8 oled have a micro HDMI , so which adapter micro HDMI to HDMI do you recommend for Xbox serie x 120hz ?
Did you try already G8 oled with Xbox serie x ?
Which adapter has you used ?
Do you thinking that neo G8 it better for Xbox serie x ?
Hi RTINGS,
I am not able to get any HDR with this Monitor at any settings except 4k60 with disabled VRR. Your Review suggests that it works.
Can you retest or explain further on your settings ? OLED without HDR ist kinda useless.

Hi Rtings friends.
I have a 2 questions.
¿How to calibrate the OS of this monitor?
When the monitor change to os “like build apps” it start to use “movie preset” but when I try to change some settings It doesnt change anything.
I want to calibrate it because build apps looks oversaturated, reds and greens are so intense and the saturation setting doesnt work.
and the another question.
¿Can you provide 2 point or 20 point calibration for the OS?
and
¿How to calibrate HDR in this monitor?
Thank you and Cheers.
Hello! To start off, we don’t calibrate in HDR, and as for the 2 and 20-point calibration settings, it’s important to remember that each unit requires different calibration values, so your unit would be different from ours anyways. I would suggest for you to play around with the settings until you find something you like, including adjusting the Color Space settings.
As for the built-in apps, it’s normal that each app requires different picture modes, like if they’re in HDR or not. Once again, you should simply adjust the settings until you find something you like. Hope this helps!
Hi Rtings staff,
In Samsung G8 OLED, can you set 175hz and 10 bit color depth TOGETHER? Along with HDR in Windows?
Is that possible with dp or hdmi 2.1?
Hello. As explained in Refresh Rate, you can get a 175Hz, 10-bit signal both over HDMI and DisplayPort. That said, the signal sometimes dropped over HDMI, so if you experience that, it’s better to use DisplayPort.

The problem is that the other modes won’t change anything. If you try to change for example the saturation in a “movie mode” or a “graphics mode” on the build apps and home screen. It doesn’t change, the only setting that change is brightness, I don’t know of this is a OS bug. Can you analyze this problem please?

I see in reddit all guys have problem with that monitor in Xbox serie x and I think it a great question ask to you because did you try monitor and make a review so it hard answer which adapter has been used in Xbox serie x for work well because if not it a useless monitor for Xbox serie x than if it is a oled

Dear RTINGs,
Overall is Samsung G8 OLED better than AW3423DW? For PC gaming using nvidia 3080ti card ?
The input lag test you showed in your reviews got customers worried about the AW DF.
Then again you only tested the initial firmware version.
Now AW3423DW is shipped with M0B205 vs the one you tested M0B101 !

You can read the full comparison between the OLED G8 and the AW3423DW here, but if you have an NVIDIA graphics card, then yes, the AW3423DW has an advantage.
Edit: Despite initial thoughts that the AW3423DW didn’t have updatable firmware, it did receive an update in Dec. 2023, that you can only do through an NVIDIA graphics card, and this firmware update improved the input lag results.

Yes we tested the OLED G8 with the Xbox, which you can read about here. We can’t really recommend adapters as we don’t test them, and we used a basic one from Amazon. That said, if you’re deciding between the OLED G8 and the Neo G8 for the Xbox, the Neo G8 can take full advantage of the console.

So to everyone’s surprise, the AW3423DW actually did receive a firmware update (which you can do only with an NVIDIA graphics card). It does improve the input lag, and it’s more in line with other QD-OLED monitors. You can read more about it here.
This is a limitation with the Xbox. It can only do HDR using the 4K signal. Even if you can check off the box for HDR in 1440p or 1080p, it won’t be sending HDR. Unfortunately, in the case of this monitor, you need to disable VRR to be able to send an 4K signal. So the only way to have HDR, if to disable VRR then you will be receiving 4K60 with HDR. We will update the text to make it a little bit clearer to understand those limitations.

Update: Clarified that HDR only works with 4k signals on the Xbox Series X|S, which is a limitation of the console itself.
Hi! I really appreciate youre work. I was wondering if you found any added input lag or slower response time using G sync with VRR control on? i have been using this monitor for about 6 months and usually i just keep vrr control off because in most games the vrr flicker isnt noticable but in some games i do have to enabe vrr control because of its game engine. but i feel like it really slows down the response time and add alot of input lag,is this placebo or real?

Thanks for the kind words, and we appreciate your support too! We actually found that using the VRR Control setting didn’t affect the input lag, as it’s the same even with it off.

Can you please let us know what color space setting have you used and what was the saturation level in hdr?
At the moment auto/custom color space is bugged and shows purple outline on bright lights. The only solution is to use native but it oversaturates and then even after desaturation, color accuracy is far from perfect.
Can you share with us your hdr settiings for colors?

We mention in the text of the “HDR Brightness” the settings used for testing. If the setting is not mention there, we kept the default setting. In this case, We used the Custom Picture Mode with the ColorSpace setting set to Native. We also did not change the Saturation setting.

Thanks so much. But this would make the colors inaccurate? I mean what I can see happening is that native with 25 brightness even in HDR native videos is far off.
Unless you dont test accuracy in hdr games for example?

We measure the HDR gamut, volume, and brightness (eotf). However, we don’t score the eotf, or measure HDR color accuracy. We appreciate the feedback and we’ve added it to our test bench suggestions.

I already raised it to Samsung and got email their tech department is looking into it. It’s really great monitor but if someone prioritizes color accuracy then he should look elsewhere for now.

Thank you for testing PS5’s compatibility, but I would like to know whether OLED G8 can support both HDR and VRR of PS5 under 4K@60hz?
Because I’m worried that some games on the PS5 will render at 1080P under 1440P@120HZ, but when I use 4K@60hz mode, the game will render at 4K sampling 1440P signal output
