an 8-bit panel has 2 to the power of 8 values per color: thatโs 256 gradations or versions each of red, blue, and green. We calculate them as 256 x 256 x 256 to arrive at a total of 16.7 million possible colors.
On 10-bit panels, every pixel shows up to 1024 versions of each primary color, in other words 1024 to the power of three or 1.07 BILLION possible colors. So, a 10-bit panel has the ability to render images with exponentially greater accuracy than an 8-bit screen.
I to agree that this tv shouldnโt have such high of a rating . I was deciding between this and the X950G and I did lots of research on both. recently the Q80T got put on display at the Post exchange on base and I got to compare both of them and I have to say the X950G looks so much better, itโs way brighter and the colors just pop and to me a better buy over the Q80T unless you are a gamer. Well I ended up getting the 65 inch X950G and itโs amazing, I play on my Xbox one x and the gaming is super smooth and the picture quality is amazing. ( ALSO I am not some Sony fanboy I am just a guy that likes getting his moneys worth lol, I have had nothing but Samsung since the plasma days and currently still have a NU8000 which is a great tv.
To sum it up I think the Q80T should be more of a 8.4 score possibly 8.3
Iโve heard that this new 1290.4 update has lowered the brightness for gaming mode and overall just lowered the brightness level, it does seem to be true since when I used to pop in a game on my Xbox one x and it would automatically go into game mode the brightness would go super high now after this new update it goes into game mode and the brightness seems unchanged and not as bright as prior to the update. If this is true Iโm done with Samsung if they are degrading picture quality for older Gen models.
Iโd be interested in knowing as well.
