Nice.
How’s the X800H going regarding the not-stickinging-in-game-mode issue? Are you running the latest firmware (6.4770).
This is the only issue I’m waiting on before pulling the same trigger, but it’s not been fixed in > 2 months now… :(
I do have the latest firmware, according to the settings. But I’m not exactly sure how to interpret the the firmware…
Mine says BRAVIAUR3UC-user 9 PTT.1.190515.001.S71 647701
Does that extra 01 on the end mean that my firmware is newer? The firmware on the Sony website just says v6.4770.
I can’t tell….
The issue has been a bit of a problem. When the screen has been off for a while, it jumps to a higher input lag in Game mode. But, I put the “Picture Mode” on the quick settings screen and it only take a second or two to switch to Graphics Mode and then back to Game mode to restore the low input lag. I can certainly see the input lag in the mouse cursor immediately, so it’s easy to spot and quick to fix. I wouldn’t call it a non-starter, just a minor annoyance, that hopefully will get fixed soon.
I just did a quick test, turning the TV off and then back on, and the input lag was still low. However, I’m not sure if that is the same thing. My uptime is still 69 hours. So it probably has to be off for a while to be truly .. off.
Edited 4 years ago: To add my results from a quick off/on test.
That is really impressive and a reason why I chose the Q70R over an OLED TV. From what I’ve read, OLED burn in isn’t a major issue anymore. But, I just didn’t want to take the chance with my kids… who will walk away from the TV at the end of the day, leaving a video game paused with a static image.
Accepting ‘premium’ image quality (in lieu of ‘ultimate’) for some peace of mind and a larger display was a good tradeoff.
Check the latest pricing .. some of the Samsung QLEDs just got huge price drops. The 82" Q70R is now only $2500 at Best Buy, and I think everywhere. Best Buy price matched my purchase and I got a $300 refund - so you need to keep checking prices even after you buy one.
Can you please tell me if it has any problems like dse, blooming, ghosting, stutter? How good are the black details in dark room? I’m thinking about getting 55" version for a long time already, because i’m so scared that i will have to go through a panel lottery again. I had some really bad tv buying experiences in the past, so i’m a bit afraid this time.
There is a very slight DSE on my 82" Q70R but it’s not noticeable in most content. I think for these larger panels it’s more challenging to get complete uniformity. Yes, there is also minor blooming, but it too is not noticeable in most situations. White text on a complete black background and you will see it. Otherwise, the deeper blacks are certainly worth putting up with a slight amount of blooming. If you are going to use this in a dark room, definitely get the Q70 over the Q60 if money is not a problem. Keep an eye on the pricing, the 65" seems to be a good value and might be even less expensive this holiday shopping season. You can set up a price monitor on www.camelcamelcamel.com. I was watching the pricing on all the Samsung QLEDs, thinking that 75" was my target, but then jumped on the 82" because it was only $200 more. Since then, the price has gone back up, so keep watching as the prices change frequently this time of year. Happy Hunting!
I just pulled the trigger on the 82" Q70R for only $2800. I think that this is the best value for a premium 82" 4K TV. I have gone into the You Tube App and played some of the HDR10 demo videos and you can really see how much the peak brightness can impact images such as sunsets and explosions. One warning though … on friday night the TV looked huge.. but by Sunday we are completely used to it and it now seems merely … normal. It’s amazing what your mind can get used to.
I’m happy with it. My only complaint is that it’s hard to see all the way to the edge when sitting close (that is, it looks like a little bit, like 1/3 size of a scroll bar is cut off). The pixels are there, it’s just the angle kind of distorts the edge.
Yes, I see this too - long text on desktop icons near the edge can be obscured by the effect. I found a hidden Windows Registry setting to adjust the horizontal (and vertical) spacing of the desktop icons so that this would not happen.

Some Bias Lighting might help…
