The Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 3 is slightly better than the Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 2, but not by much. While they have a comparable battery life performance, the newer version's sound profile also sounds brighter and fuller overall. Otherwise, the two speakers are almost identical. It isn't worth the upgrade if you already own a WONDERBOOM 2. If you want a new, small, portable Ultimate Ears speaker, choose the WONDERBOOM 3 instead.

Battery life and ratings should be reviewed and updated from the very beginning. Wonderboom 2 has 9.1 rating with 12.9 Battery life while Wonderboom 3 has 8.9 rating with 13.2 hours Battery Life and Emberton 2 has 8.7 rating with 22.1 hours of battery life. All these are so confusing and affects other calculations such as Outdoor ratings.

We have looked into the Wonderboom 3 outdoor mode and measured a 1.4dB increase of mostly mid and treble frequencies. Here is a link comparing the two modes calibrated to 80dB SPL. Link Regarding the Wonderboom 2-3, the unit variation and testing rooms could all impact the obtained results, which could explain the 1dB difference between our two units. At the moment, we no longer have the Wonderboom 2 in our office.

Hi Dagobiet! Then I assume there could be a mistake in tests. While their all sound characteristics are so identical and wattage is exactly the same, there shouldn’t be 1 decibel difference between Wonderboom 2 and 3. We tested both Ultimate ears Wonderboom 2/3 with “Outdoor Mode” Off. We will measure the difference of “Outdoor Mode” On/Off and update the review with our findings.

Are Frequency Tests (Especially SPC) made while Outdoor mode on or off? As I remember max SPL for Wonderboom 2 was 86Db in normal mode and 87.9Db in Outdoor mode; but no info about that especially in Wonderboom 3
