4K VRR Performance

With the 1080p and 1440p resolutions enabling VRR drops the input lag to around the 7ms range (compared to 10ms at 60hz). But with 4k it increases to almost 15ms, compared to around 10ms at 60hz. Any explanation why that is? Is there a possibility this improves once its possible to test with an HDMI 2.1 source?
