Thanks for the reviews as always.

Would be great if you guys could consider testing for 4K 120hz halved resolution issues on all current HDMI 2.1 4K 120hz capable TVs including this TCL R646 (Temporarily till Mediatek releases new chips that no longer suffer from this issue).

This is because due to hardware limitation of the Mediatek SOC, it has already affected multiple TVs from other brands such as the Sony X85J, X900H, Panasonic JZ2000, and TCL C825 (This TV is a MiniLED TV offered outside of the U.S in Europe and Asia. It uses the same Mediatek SOC as the R646, model number MT9615).

This halved resolution issue seems to be here to stay at least till Mediatek releases newer SOCs that fully supports the 4K 120hz pass through at Full Resolution. Vincent from HDTVTest normally uses a 4K Test Pattern Image to test for this in most of his reviews. In one of his latest videos where the issue was brought up to the Senior Director of Philips, the Director stated that he was very much aware of this hardware limitation with the Mediatek SOCs..

Thanks for sharing! We’ve added this to our review pipeline page and will consider buying and testing it if there’s enough user interest!

Thank you. I’m sure there will be plenty of interest. If it is a decent improvement over the AOC Q27G3XMN it would be a solid budget option for HDR content.
