Does this tv remote use infrared?

My remote is not working. I called Sony support they said point the remote to my phones camera. The camera is able to show the infrared. My camera didn’t pick up anything (no infrared) so they suggest for me to buy a new remote. I never did this camera trick when the remote was working. Can anyone confirm that this remote does use infrared when it’s used. I don’t want to but a new remote and have a hard time connecting it to my Tv, if it doesn’t just work right out of the box.
