So I went ahead and got the x900f hoping to play multiplayer games at 120hz at 1440p. Turns out enabling 120hz messes up the colors. Instead of a dark purple start menu that I have for windows 10 , at 1440p 120hz or 1080p 120hz the menu becomes light purple.
After some further observations in games, done by switching to 4K 60 and back to 120hz , I realized that colors become washed out. In darker games u may not notice it. But play destiny 2 or battlefield v daytime multiplayer maps and you will see how bad the colors get.
I think that you guys should edit your review for the x900f further to clarify that ,in using the forced resolutions and the tip for achieving 120hz at 1080p on console, will result in washed out colors. It would help others to have this information. So that they don’t make the same mistake I did.
The q8fn would possibly be a better choice as it might display colors correctly at1440p given that it even supports vrr at that resolution and 120hz . But I have no way of knowing.
Strange that you guys at rtings would miss this given how much technical information is given regarding many aspects of the television performance. It would be great that if in the future you could incorporate somekind of test to make sure that the resolutions you list as supported are in fact producing a usable image.
I’m kinda stuck with this TV now as I cut up the box because it was huge and the store I bought it at requires the box for a return.
I mainly wrote this post to help inform others and you guys at rtings. But I also think that maybe someone will read this and have a solution for this problem, Since I can’t return this tv for a usable display for 120hz gaming I would like to find a fix. I’m hoping maybe I just have some setting wrong on my PC but I’ve tried changing the nvidia color settings and turning off certain features in Sony’s game mode under the video, color , and, brightness settings. Nothing worked. But the various levels of live color have a strange affect on the colors in 120hz mode. As does the advanced contrast enhancer setting. These 2 settings behave strangely as they wash out the image most at medium for live color and at high for advanced contrast enhancer. Even with these settings the colors are messed up.
