Update: We uploaded the brightness measurements and uniformity photos after running the TV for four months in our Accelerated Longevity Test.
Why did you significantly lower the score of this set, it used to be scored above 8, I think 8.1 or 8.2 iirc

The TV was recently retested as part of our 1.11 test methodology update, whereas the original review, where it scored an 8.2, was on version 1.6 of our methodology. With these changes some of the scores has changed, so many older TVs dropped in score a bit, as technology continues to improve they’re not as good relative to the current market conditions.

7.4 for HDR movies seems extremely low for this set. Are you sure that isn’t an error? It’s significantly brighter than a Sony x90j and has less blooming than and that has a higher hdr movie score (and thus overall score). It can break 1000 nits, which is still very impressive for even today’s tv sets.
This seems like the most significant score change I’ve seen on your site. From 8.2 to 7.6, with very little explanation. Your 1.9 test bench seems to INCREASE movie scores for low quality sets, not the other way around.
This set also has true 4k resolution at 120hz, when many of the same sets from the same time period only display half resolution.
The x90j does not even support a wide color gamut and somehow has an 8.1 HDR movie score.

It’s not a mistake. The P Series Quantum 2021 does some things well that you mentioned. It’s brighter than the X90J, and it has a wider color gamut and better color volume. Those advantages aren’t noticeable with the majority of HDR content, which is usually under 300 nits except for the occasional bright scene. The problem is that the Vizio can’t display any HDR content accurately, and in HDR, it’s all about creator’s intent. The Vizio doesn’t track the brightness accurately, especially in shadow details, and the color accuracy and white balance are noticeably off. The Vizio also can’t process low-quality or low-resolution content well, so if you’re watching movies from a streaming service, they’ll be pixelated and a bit blurry overall.
Your review doesn’t mention this and in fact says it tracks brightness quite well. HDR brightness and wide color gamut are crucial for displaying HDR content properly.
The original HDR movie score I’m quite sure was well over 8.0
HDR content standards have not changed that much in a year and a half.
As far as upscaled content/streaming content most HDR content is at least 1080p which this set does just fine with.
The 2020 H1 version of this set has more negatives in the HDR movie section, and yet has a much higher score. These are virtually the same set and you rated the 2021 version a full half point lower, despite it initially having a 8.2 review score. The H1 still has an 8.1 overall score and a much higher HDR movie score.
It seems odd you’ve dropped the score so much specifically on this set.

I completely agree. I’ve noticed that what they write in the reviews doesn’t always match up to the scores. or, that the details that impact the score are left out vs what they mention in comments afterwards. They’re especially noticeable with Vizio TVs. I do think there is a bias in their scoring Vizio.

There’s no bias here at all. The issue is that our scoring changes over time due to retests and test methodology updates, but we don’t usually have the resources to update the text to match it. You can see examples of this across TVs from any brand. Over the next few weeks we’ll have time to rewrite some TV reviews, I’ll make sure this one is one of them.
Update: We uploaded the latest brightness measurements and uniformity photos for the Accelerated Longevity Test.
Newest firmware update 5.600.32.4-2 has fixed all the minor issues I’ve had with this set, menus much snappier, volume indicator made smaller and moved to upper right, and noticeable improvement to overall picture quality.
