I already bought the 86" for the home theater room and wanted a smaller low mid range or better budget tv for my kitchen. I decided on the 50" because it had the va panel and i wanted to see a nanocell va tv. The viewing angles are great, way better than what i expected. I guess va panels differ quite a bit in that regard. compared to the ips panel 86" the colors are similar. The 86" has better motion because its true 120hz and it has a few extra features with the better processor. The 50" definitely has better contrast and black levels. Something that was a bit of a revelation to me was being able to notice pixels more on a va. I think because on a va they are rectangular and in a grid of rows whereas on ips they are chevron shaped locking into each other you dont notice. So ips looks more realistic in that regard and the va looks blocky. I know there is a variety of va types so someone else could get a different va with different attributes. Overall its a good choice.
