Internal storage fail after 2.5 years

I’m only posting this because mine doesn’t seem like an isolated case, I found two other instances of the same issue with the H8F models of around the same age. Out of the blue one morning the TV went from 1.6Gb free to 0 bytes free and the internal storage seems to have become read only. It won’t allow uninstall of any apps, it won’t factory reset, it won’t flash from a USB stick, it won’t allow any packages to be deleted using adb. In this state is not even usable as a “dumb tv” for an HDMI device since apps keep crashing in the background and freezing the image.

    Hi devynosborne,

We actually just converted the review to our newest Test Bench! :) If you have any other questions let me know! :)

    Hi Dylan,

Awesome, though it’s not clear to me what exactly was updated. I see the update note at the top, but don’t see any updates in the individual sections. Perhaps I’m just missing it. Is it easy to summarize or point out?

Also - you may want to update your Amazon link, which currently shows unavailable. Walmart too.

You’ll probably notice the biggest differences in this update being relevant to gaming. We adjust input lag for most TVs and tested things like HDR brightness in game mode. There wasn’t many changes to individual scores but there’s some helpful information if you’re a gamer! If there’s ever something specific you want us to have a look at, feel free to let us know though!:)

With regards to the link you provided, I could totally be missing it, but it seems like Amazon has it set to currently unavailable and that they aren’t sure when it’s going to be back in stock! I could totally just be missing something though!

    Got it, thanks!

I suppose the only specific thing I was wondering is if some of the other bugs related to local dimming have been resolved - eg, that it indicates it’s on, but it’s off. Or that it shuts off when viewing Dolby Vision content.

Or, generally speaking, if there’s other significant issues that remain unresolved with the latest updates.

Interestingly, some folks in other forums have recommended not updating (which I think means not connecting the TV to wifi, to avoid the auto-updates), but I’m unclear if that was or is good advice.

That’s odd. I see 4 of the 55", and 2 of the 65", in stock on Amazon, delivery to me in Los Angeles by March 16. Here’s the full link to the M55Q8-H1:

I went ahead and updated. All seems well on my end, at least based on initial viewing.

I’ll add a couple requests, since you asked. :-)

The latest firmware is 1.10.15.5-4. It looks like your latest tests were done on 1.10.15.1-2. I’m not sure what changed between those releases, but it might be worth checking out.

I’d also love to know if there are any updates to your recommended calibration settings. I think those were last updated in September, before several firmware updates.

Thanks for all of the help!

Hey, sorry for the delayed response! Thanks for sharing this information with us, I’m glad you’re enjoying the update so far! Unfortunately, we’re currently doing a lot of testing right now in preparation for the 2021 lineup of TVs so we don’t have any plans to conduct a general retest at the moment. However, if you notice something specific that you think might be worth a retest, do not hesitate to let us know! With regards to an update in calibration settings, we don’t have anything specific on our end, but it never hurts to tinker with the settings and see what you enjoy! You can always change it back if you don’t like it! :)
