Yes, make it.
Technics EAH-AZ80 earbuds have received outstanding reviews, especially for sound quality. I hope that you will review them, and compare them to the other flagship earbuds currently available. Thank you.
Confused as to why Technics products are not being reviewed. The EAH-AZ80 are on almost every “top earbuds” list. PLEASE, PLEASE review this version!!!
Technics earbuds are known to be almost overly-neutral. I’d love to see your take on this!!

No specific reason other than likely a lack of user interest. On our end, we’re open to buying and testing most products as long as there’s enough user interest, so if this products gains more traction, we’ll happy buy and test it!
Definitely make it ! There is more than a lot of traction/hype around these even though they’re so badly marketed (both through reviews and distribution channels). I even saw several ref here and there of people waiting for your review especially.
I am returning my wfxm5 for the AZ80 (which i personnally preferred) and I would be very curious to see the outcome of a more scientific review/comparison.
Hope to read that soon! Cheers :)

Wow really? Can you please tell me why you echanged them? What is better in the AZ80? Do you think that the bass is better at AZ80?

I need Rtings to expose why i did that choice :D
If i had to rank the reasons i would say : 1. call quality; 2. comfort et 3. the sound from the AZ80 has something special I can’t describe (might be a very personnal opinion here but with LDAC on it is just …surprisingly good).
BUT ! you feel the bass way more with the xm5 (and you can push it way higher than my eq settings), sound quality is really great (even though it sounds a bit more messy to me for some reason) and the ANC is better too (foam helps). Call quality is good in quiet areas but they are unusuable in open air like a street.
I bought such a technics ear and so far I really like it. I read that there were some who bought and took the new Sony earpiece because they didn’t like them (earlier version was right than the new) Technics AZ80 I think is worth a test and comparison with other flagship ears.
Any chance to have them reviewed? :)
these seem like a popular choice going by votes + comments, would love to see them compared to Jabra Elite 10
I too would love a review of them
Would be so cool to have them tested! Also the AZ60M2 seem promising.
Really looking forward to your analysis of these…
Why did this drop from ~90 votes down to ~40?
Please make a review on the Technics AZ80’s. Need to read what you guys think about them.
I understand the reasoning behind it, but I would think user interest would be balanced on the exterior knowledge that the industry itself has been impressed with them. User interest for you’re brand is obviously a top metric, but user interest also isn’t always going to participate in a way that let’s you measure it. Definitely think technics as a brand needs to start being entered in the conversation, not just a specific product of theirs.
I have read so much about the Technics AZ80 and all is great. I am trying to decide whether to get it or no, from a more technical aspect of the kind this site only can do. So far I have seen it is between the best 5 out there. And that the sound is amazing!
As a owner, my main complaint is the dynamic range seems subpar. There’s definitely some compression when playing loud, or something like bass heavy EDM.
How can you not review it?
It is insane that this has not been reviewed. I nearly only trust rtings and this one completely slipped my radar. But now Iam going to pull the trigger on it based on the resit and YouTube and my only concern is that I have not seen it on this site. Everywhere else this is always compared to the big guys, Sony and bos etc. but weirdly on this site Sennheiser is always in the top 5, but when you Google without bias then these actually make the list more. Please review it before it ships! Haha
This is really insane that these headphones are not reviewed yet.. Look at the number of comments here, more than any other headphones on the list…
Please review it. My linkbuds s failed and I am thinking about buying these headphones. I am especially curious about their ANC performance when compared to Sony and Bose.
The product has won our suggestion poll, so we’ll buy and test it soon. Follow this thread for updates!
We’ve purchased the product and are waiting for it to arrive in our lab.

Hi Garry! Unfortunately, the unit we purchased still hasn’t been delivered to the our lab yet. So we don’t have any data on leakage or anything else at this time. Once we test the unit we purchased, we’ll be able to provide this information! Sorry about that!
The product has arrived in our lab, and our testers will start evaluating it soon.
I have to say, I’m fairly excited to see the test results for the Technics EAH-AZ80s. All of the other Technics wireless earbuds flew under the radar until now. You guys are awesome.
Oh finally! :)
this is almost the best sound quality earbuds i have ever listened to
When can we expect the review of those to be ready, approximately?
Edit: Since there is no review from rtings, I will post mine here. This all Very Subjective so take everything below with a grain of salt. This is all from my own personal tastes and preferences.
Recently picked up the EAH-AZ80’s. Have to say, as my 2nd pair of high end earbuds (first being Denon PerL Pro) I am BLOWN away. Firstly, the design is quite appealing. The cincha fit works as advertised and I’ve gone a whole day wearing these with minimal readjustments and barely any comfort problems. The only “issue” is that when i open my mouth to eat, yawn or when I talk, the plastic rubs against my skin. This didn’t cause any further issues other than a rubbing sound. These earbuds are quite large and a bit on the overweight side. I assume this is all to accomodate the acoustic chamber which works fantastically well. The first word that came to my head when I paired these up was soundstage. Despite being fresh and not having even downloaded the app, the default eq is amazing. Not only does it have a wide soundstage, but exceptional instrument separation and mids. The bass and treble, at least for me, were a little underwhelming but a quick increase in the eq was all it needed. There is however, one specific issue that makes listening to certain genres a bit unsatisfying. Listening to my rock playlist, I noticed that the cuitar sounded quite muddy, like distortion was cranked up on the amp. I don’t know why this is happening or how to fix it. I tried to tweak the EQ in the app but to no avail. Again, this is a very specific issue which DOESN’T make rock/metal unlistenable, but it’s a big bummer considering the 300+ price tag in these. The app is well designed. 5 band eq, full control customization for single, double, triple and a press. In addition to playback and volume controls, there’s also a customizable call control like picking up, hanging up and even noise reduction for the other end. There is also the “just my voice” feature which blocks out all noise and isolates your own voice. However, it is worth noting that on the “strong” setting, it does diminish the call quality. The ANC and transparency are exceptional. The ANC has no trouble with bass and mids but a little bit of treble leaks through. If i had to guess the attenuation I’d say:
Bass: ~19 - 22 dB Mid: ~20 - 23 dB Treble: ~17- 21 dB
The transparency is almost airpods quality. The only thimg holding it back is the amount of white noise. Thankfully, there is a slider which allows you to change the intensity of the transparency. I’ve found that 80% is where there is the least amount of white noise for the amount of noise being let in. Additionally, there is an “attention” mode which enhances mid and treble for clearer voices. It’s worth noting that when the transparency mode is in use, there is no loud noise reduction as there is with most earbuds. A couple extra features is multipoint in 3 devices, LDAC, low latency mode, in-ear detection and concha fit.
I look forward to reading your review!

Hi there and thanks for your question! I apologize for the delay in getting back to you - we have a lot of products in the pipeline at the moment and we don’t want to set any unrealistic expectations. I can provide you with a few estimates though. These earbuds are scheduled to begin testing on Monday with an aim to wrapping up this process next week. We’ll then update our tracker when the writing commences. It’s hard to give estimates beyond this but I hope it’s helpful. I myself am very curious as to how these perform given the various reports online and from users in this thread!
Our testers have started testing this product; is there anything specific you’re looking to see? Let us know in this thread.
@christopher-steward I’d like to see a comparison to the leader of your board in that category Sony WF-1000XM5. And if possible some investigations what difference the Foamtips of the XM5s could do for the ANC of the AZ80ies if they fit
Funfact. The Independent famous German Institution and Magazin “Stiftung Warentest” ranked them on par with the Sony XM5 and Galaxy Buds FE (in Sound)

We’ll certainly look to make this comparison! I don’t know if we’ll be able to Frankenstein the XM5 tips for the AZ80’s for testing necessarily but you’ve definitely piqued my curiosity. Seems like the best of both worlds to me as I’ve owned the AZ40MK2’s for a few months now and have been loving the detailed sound profile.
Hope you guys do a comparison for the Sennheiser MW3/4, since they’re also in the space of hi-fi earbuds. Poking to upgrade from my MW2, and if the noise canceling/audio is great, then id rather these over the ¾.
Early access to our full test results is now available for Insiders! Become an insider to check it out here.
I upgraded from Sennheiser MTW4 to this. During the process of using MTW4, I encountered various quality issues, and the default sound style is relatively dull, especially the vocal and treble parts, and the resolution was not clear. After switching to the AZ80, I feel the sound is more dynamic, with clear resolution, wider sound field, and even better ANC effect.
In your comparisons to Momentum 4, Bose and XM5, you mentioned that they deliver audio more consistently, could you please explain what you meant by that?
Also could you please comment on subbass performance on these, in dynamic or superbass presets compared to the XM5 and momentum 4?
Thankyou!

Hey there! Thanks for these great questions. If a pair earbuds delivery audio more consistently, it essentially means that there’s less deviation in the frequency response between different listening sessions. Everyone’s ears are unique, which can cause the buds to fit differently from person to person. Even for the same person, slight differences in the fit and seal between listening sessions can often cause differences in the way audio is delivered and perceived. For earbuds, we’ll insert and remove the buds five times on our dummy head to see if there’s any deviation in the frequency response and assign a score based on how consistent their audio delivery is.
As for the presets, if you’re looking for the maximum amount of low-end, we found that the Superbass+ preset added almost 10dB to the bass range. There’s a graph in the ‘sound profile’ section of the review where you can see this. Although I haven’t been able to put the Superbass+ FR curve and those of the XM5 and Momentum 4 on the same graph, all three earbuds have a pretty similar bass response by default, so the Superbass+ will likely have a more powerful subbass performance than the default sound profile of the other two. Ultimately all three earbuds have some form of in-app EQ though, so you should be able to customize the bass response to get what you’re looking for.
Hope that helps!

Thankyou for the detailed response, it’s much appreciated.
I picked up the AZ80, Momentum 4 and Status Between 3ANC. I really wanted to like the momentums but ended up preferring the AZ80. I couldn’t get the momentums to match the bass and clarity of the AZ80 even with personalisation. Between 3ANC had slightly better sound than the AZ80 though, and I’m not sure which one to keep. Do you have any thoughts on this?

I have the az80, but love foam ear tips. I got these and they work great. I think the headphones sound better with them too.
