Sony Update Broke Game Mode Display Area

With recent firmware updates to current Sony TVs, the Display Area settings under Screen settings cannot be adjusted when in Game picture mode. Mine is an X950G, and before I was able to access Display Area settings and choose Full Pixel, +1, -1, etc. In Game mode. Have others experienced this or found a workaround? For 480p consoles like Wii, it leaves black bars on all sides. The only option is to use Custom or another mode and then access Display Area, but then you deal with input lag.
