EOTF tracking in VRR

Hi, I have a question about EOTF tracking in VRR that I’ve recently noticed on my unit. I’m not sure if you still have this TV available for testing, but I’d imagine it’s the same for the C4 as well.

I noticed in test patterns is that when I have VRR disabled, and the Tv is set to HGiG, the TV clips at around 800 nits which is expected.

However, as soon as I engage VRR, the clipping point is closer to 950 nits. At the same time, the brightness does not seem to change much in test patterns between 800 and 950 nits, suggesting the TV is doing a roll off between those numbers.

Increasing the “fine tune dark areas” to +5 restores the original clipping point of 800 nits, but I’m not sure how this affects tracking on the lower end and if this results in raised black levels.

What is your recommendation regarding this? How would I set up system calibrations in Windows and on gaming consoles? I’m leaning towards leaving it at 800 as the rolloff could cause clipping in bright elements otherwise, and increasing the fine tune option on a per case basis.

    Hey there!

You can actually see our recommended settings linked in the review for this TV. There should be a ‘settings’ tab right below the scores/pictures at the top of the review. If you can’t find it, here it is! :)
