Are you able to share insights on the rating system you use? Is it based on what the particular category ‘should’ score as perfecty, or is it a comparison of TVs? i.e. you list Samsung QN90B as the ‘best upper mid range tv’ with a mixed score of 8.7, but then you have LG C2 as best mid range tv with a mixed score of 8.8, when the QN90B is considerably cheaper than the LG.

Our recommendations are based on market positioning rather than price point; prices fluctuate throughout the year, but a product’s market position remains pretty stable. And in the case of the LG C2, while it’s undoubtedly a fantastic TV (largely due to its undelying OLED technology, and its great gaming features), some of its feature set, such as its processing capabilities or even its ability to do and maintain a bright full screen image, are decidedly mid-range.
Update: Replaced the LG C2 OLED with the LG C3 OLED as the ‘Best 80-85 Inch TV’ pick, replaced the Samsung QN90B QLED with the Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED as the ‘Best Upper Mid-Range 80-85 Inch TV’ pick, and replaced the TCL 6 Series/R655 2022 QLED with the TCL QM8/QM850G QLED as the ‘Best Mid-Range 80-85 Inch TV’ pick. Added the TCL 6 Series/R655 2022 QLED and removed the Samsung QN900B 8k QLED from the Notable Mentions. Refreshed the text for accuracy and consistency.

So my head is spinning trying to pic a 85 inch tv…. In the 2023 modals at a $2000 and under price range, what is the best for Xbox , action, horror and 80’s movies. I hate seeing the dark movies and tv shows pixelate the black areas ! And do not want the soap opera mode ! just want the picture to be as intended. Sony says there processer is the best but I see TCL and Hisencse are getting good marks, any help would be appreciated

This is definitely something we’re keeping an eye on, but the market for TVs that large is still very small and we haven’t tested any. The market is definitely increasing, though, so we’ll keep watching it and add categories when there’s enough interest and there are enough models available that we could test some of them.
