I use either precise open back or bassy closed ones, its impossible to find bassy open ones, using awareness mode on xm4 would be the option. I use Oneodio monitor 80 (250ohm) as super light open back for cheap price, no review here, but they can indeed take a lot of Watts and get crazy loud. They have enough bass(flat profile but they are not without like most open back), the only drawback is extremely cheap body/endurance, you don’t want to drop these. Meanwhile I look for more premium alternative lcd-gx looking like one, thats precise, light, can play bassy songs out loud and is not with too much vocal/high frequencies. I got (drop+thx)panda’s and they are too vocalish. SoundID helps a lot with these, not with distortion at max volume though, I just like really loud playback sometimes. Bassy planar is my dream lol.

  3. Update: To better align with other articles, we’ve replaced the Logitech G435 LIGHTSPEED Wireless with the Anker Soundcore Life Q20 Wireless.

Over-Ear is not the same as Around-Ear. Please separate out the reviews

    Hi there,

‘Around-ear’ and ‘over-ear’ refer to the same kind of headphones, otherwise known as circumaural headphones; they cover your entire ear and rest against your head, rather than on your ear like on-ear headphones. That said, if you search up ‘around-ear’ on somewhere like Amazon, you’ll also encounter headphones like the Shokz OpenFit True Wireless, which go around the ear and sit outside of the concha. We do not consider these kinds of headphones over-ears.

    I hope that helps!

  6. Update: We’ve ensured all products are in stock and updated the Notable Mentions to include the Philips Fidelio X2HR.

The same usual suspects and the inclusion of two Soundcore products, who gift headphones to reviewers in order to get a favourable review, raises a few eyebrows. The omission of the par excellence Cambridge Audio P100 is criminal.

    Thanks for your comment.

At RTINGS.com, we pride ourselves on our independence. We do not accept gifted units from manufacturers, run adverts, or review cherry-picked units. We buy all the products we review ourselves, just as regular consumers would, before running them through our test benches. Of course, you might still disagree with our results, and we always welcome feedback on our testing protocols so that we can improve our methods.

We haven’t currently reviewed the P100, but you can vote for the next headphones you want us to review here: https://www.rtings.com/vote/headphones

    I hope that helps!

  9. Update: Though our picks haven’t changed, we’ve made changes to the text for clarity and added the Sony WH-1000XM5 as an option in the ‘Best Upper Mid-Range’ category.
