Urgent Update Needed on NVIDIA Adaptive Sync Drivers Compatibility

Hello,

I am the owner of a Samsung QE55Q60r and have been reading a lot of comments reporting that the compatibility issue with the NVIDIA Adaptive Sync drivers for Q60R/Q70R models and above had now seemingly been resolved since the last firmware updates by Samsung:

https://www.avsforum.com/threads/2019-samsung-q70r-qled-owners-thread-no-price-talk.3056264/page-130

https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/jpvrft/hdmi_vrr_working_on_samsung_q70r/

Your last update on the issue dates back from 12/17/2019 and was stating that “the Samsung Q70R doesn’t work properly with NVIDIA’s current Adaptive Sync drivers”. Same goes for the Q60R and others.

Considering the current GPU shortage and the very similar performance between AMD and NVIDIA new iteration of GPUs it would be worth retesting this and confirm whether the issue has been fixed. Most hardware review Youtube channels and websites do not bother testing the GPUs on TV (as TV PC gamers are considered “as a minority” as they say) and we are therefore left in the dark as whether Adaptive Sync will work or not with a freshly bought new system. For example it is now easier to acquire a RTX 3080 than a RX 6800 XT prebuilt PC. A 3080/6800XT prebuilt is in the range of $2,500 and not knowing whether the system will be working with Adaptive Sync is a very big risk to take and no official or clear information is made available by either manufacturer on the matter.

Help would be really appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi! Unfortunately, we no longer have this TV so we can’t retest it.

    I have confirmed, G-Sync.

Confirmed working, but only through hdmi port 1 even though all ports will expose gsync compatibility when freesync is enabled in tv menu. Ports are otherwise identical in supported resolutions and refresh rates (only hdmi 3 stands out with arc). Documentation is very much lacking.

I must add that it plays a littlebit better with amd cards as it works on hdmi 1 through 4, and a few games experience less to no microstuttering on amd. That said, most games do run flawlessly on nvidia, too. For many games, fullscreen mode is a requirement for stutter free gameplay on both nvidia and amd, but that is probably nothing new. tested on rtx 3070 and rx 6600 xt.
