Hello Friends, I would like to share my experience with the Sony XR-55X90K, which I bought recently. The TV Out-of-the-Box is very dull, believe me you will definitely not like the default picture quality/settings of this TV. But Sony has provided much flexibility for tweaking the picture settings. Therefore, I will share the magic settings which I have managed to tweak for optimum quality. If you apply the mentioned settings below you will love the up-scaling of this TV. You won’t believe how good 1080p to 4K up-scaling this TV provides.

Settings Note: The settings mentioned below can be applied to almost every “Picture Mode” but I would prefer Custom mode, but for users who want crisp quality use these settings in “Photo Mode” and users who prefer vibrant colors use this in “Vivid Mode”. But again if you prefer middle ground go and apply these settings in “Custom Mode”

Picture Settings: Applicable to almost all type of videos (Full-HD, 4k-HDR, 4k-HDR10, 4k-SDR, 4k-Dolby-Vision*)

1. Auto Picture Mode: Off
2. Ambient Optimization Pro (Light Sensor): Off
3. Brightness: 10 (For Dolby Vision: “Max” or Adjust as per your requirement)
4. Contrast: Max
5. Gamma: -1 (For Dolby Vision: 0 “This improves details in dark scenes”)
6. HDR Tone Mapping: Gradation Preferred
7. Black Level: 49 (For Dolby Vision: 50 “This improves details in dark scenes”)
8. Black Adjust: Low
9. Adv. contrast enhancer: Medium
10. Auto local dimming: Medium
11. Peak luminance: Medium
12. Color: 55
13. Hue: 0
14. Color Temperature: Cool (I prefer it because it gives true whites instead giving off/yellow whites)
15. Live Color: Medium
16. Clarity:Sharpness: 65 (I prefer it because it gives sharp images, if you will use Sharpness around 60-65 in photo mode it will give you wonderful picture quality for 1080p videos)
17. Reality Creation: Manual, Resolution: 50 (I prefer this as it will provide crisp images without much artifacts)
18. Random Noise Reduction: Off
19. Digital Noise Reduction: Off
20. Smooth Gradation: Off
21. Motion: MotionFlow: Custom, Smoothness: Max, Clearness: 1 (I choose these settings to reduce jerks in videos and to maintain clearness for smooth video playback)
22. Film Mode: Off
23. Video Signal: All Settings “Auto”
24. Adv. color adjustment: Temperature: Basic, Multi point (10p) & Per color Adjustment: Reset to default (or Zero)

Note: In the above settings the user should adjust the Brightness accordingly to adjust the vibrancy in the picture. Also important note, while playing Dolby-Vision videos you will get 3 modes “Vivid, Dolby-Vision Bright & Dolby-Vision Dark), use "Vivid Mode” it gives vibrant and true colors & apply the above mentioned settings in “Vivid Mode” for Dolby-Vision Video.
