We don’t know how many zones the other sizes have, unfortunately, and Sony doesn’t provide this information. The number of zones usually doesn’t make a significant difference in the local dimming performance. It can help, but the algorithms that control the zones have a far greater impact on local dimming performance. Even if the 75-inch model has twice as many zones, it’s likely only marginally better.

Thanks for the answer. Anyway, maybe consider this for a future test:

    • Choose a TV model with a wide range of sizes and FALD system where the number of zones increases significantly with size - like the Sony X90K - double or even triple the count from 55" to 85"
    • Perform all the tests that are affected by FALD, such as “Contrast”, “Blooming”, “HDR brightness” on both units
    • Let us know if such a large increase in the number of dimming zones (2-3x) on the same TV model results noticeable improvements

    Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to write us with your test suggestion!

It would indeed be interesting to know if an increase in dimming zones on the same TV model in a larger size results in improvements to the picture quality.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of our testing and limited resources, it’s not foreseeable at this moment for us to purchase multiple units of a same TV model to run such a test. However, I added your suggestion to our list that we review for future test bench updates so we can evaluate it further down the line.

Don’t hesitate if you have other suggestions or questions for us!

    Best regards
