Do tvs like the Hisense U8H really hold up under a proper enclosure outdoors? You reference it as a great alternative to a proper outdoor tv in this article about best outdoor tvs. Will the Hisense U8H be okay with humidity and extreme hot and cold weather in Atlanta GA?

As long as it’s installed properly with a properly rated enclosure, you shouldn’t have any problems.

  3. Update: Replaced the Samsung S95B OLED with the LG G3 OLED as ‘Best Outdoor TV For Night Use’, added the Samsung S95B OLED as a Notable Mention, and refreshed the text for accuracy and consistency.

I normally come to this site for solid, logical, and technical reviews. With that said, this has got to be the dumbest list I’ve ever seen on a non-virus website. You guys should be ashamed for making a list of outdoor TV’S… WITH 0 OUTDOOR SETS ON THE LIST. The article should legit be taken down as it is incredibly misleading. Maybe revise the list or make one that is “actual outdoor tvs” and make this article, “outdoor tvs suck and are way too expensive. Try one of these amazing INDOOR sets MODIFIED FOR OUTDOOR USE”. Of course disclaimer it with the usual legalese but it would give us consumers a better reality in regards to using an indoor TV outdoors.

As someone who ran and runs multiple restaurants/bars and some specific sports bars… no an outdoor TV will not hold up in the elements. We had enclosures on all of ours(uv protected) and it was on the covered patio. We had to buy new tvs at 3x the rate when using indoor tvs as opposed to specific outdoor panels. You’ll possibly spend a bit more for it up front but you won’t be replacing it every 6 months to a year.

Hi! We chose to focus on indoor TVs for outdoor use as indoor TVs are a fraction of the price of true outdoor models; you could buy multiple Hisense U8K’s for the price of one true outdoor model from SunBrite. That said we are aware of criticisms regarding this decision, and we’ll clarify our position on this in the next update of our recommendation. Thanks for the comment! We appreciate the input, and we take every criticism and comment into consideration.

  7. Update: Clarified our stance on this article’s use of indoor TVs for outdoor use and refreshed the text for accuracy.

None of these TVs are actually rated for outdoors. No IP ratings? Hopefully you have waivers for everyone reading this article in case they decide to put an indoor TV outside and it catches on fire and hold you liable for calling them outdoor TVs. Jussayin’

Hi! We do explain in the intro that most of the TVs in the article are not outdoor TVs, and should instead be placed in an enclosure. Thanks for the interest!

  10. Update: The Hisense U7K is now our pick in the newly created ‘Best Lower Mid-Range Outdoor TV’ category, and the Roku Select Series is the pick in the new ‘Best Cheap Outdoor TV’ category. We also added a few Notable Mentions.

Thanks for the list! Would you have any recommendations on how to try to weatherproof an indoor tv yourself? For our situation our TV is on an exterior wall, with at least 12 feet of ceiling coverage in the other directions. We would have a nylon cover for it when not in use, and would bring it indoors during the winter season/colder temps. I just wonder how to minimize humidity damage yourself without having to buy expensive custom enclosures. Otherwise, perhaps something like a Peerless/Neptune outdoor tv may be worth it?

I wouldn’t recommend trying to do this yourself. There are enclosures available that offer the necessary protection and are still cheaper than buying a true outdoor TV from Peerless/Neptune. We haven’t tested any of them, though, so can’t offer any advice at this time.

  13. Update: Added mentions of the LG G4 OLED, the Hisense U7N, the Hisense U8N, and the Samsung QN90D in the ‘Best Outdoor TV For Night Use,’ the ‘Best Lower Mid-Range Outdoor TV,’ the ‘Best Mid-Range Outdoor TV,’ and the ‘Best Upper Mid-Range Outdoor TV’ categories, respectively. We also refreshed the text in the introduction to make it more relevant.

So I want an outdoor TV for my RV it will be in a closed cabinet and flip up when I want to watch but will be in direct sunlight it cannot be bigger then 43".

Wondering if the price of the 1k samsung is worth it or if if there is a more medium teir tv? Usually have lg oleds but understand that won’t work In an outdoor experience. Aka I’m not used to the Samsung eco system I do have roku tvs but from the reviews it sounds like it will perform poorly outside.

I have a covered, screened in deck with a TV wall. The TV wall is a West/Southwest facing wall with screen on each side of it, but is a full wood wall pre-wired for electronics. When y'all talk about using an indoor TV outdoors, but needing an enclosure for it, do you think this is sufficient (assuming it is covered when not in use), or do you mean that it needs a full weatherproof enclosure? I am in middle-Tennessee, which I assume is relevant.

My biggest concern without an enclosure would be bugs, but you mentioned that the area is screened in. Depending on how effective that screen is at keeping bugs out you might be okay without an enclosure. It doesn’t sound like weather will be an issue, but I’d recommend bringing it in the house in the winter months.

  18. Update: Replaced the TCL Q6/Q650G QLED with the Hisense U6/U6N in the ‘Best Budget Outdoor TV’ category. We also swapped the Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED and the Hisense U8/U8K with their 2024 successors. Additionally, we updated the Notable Mentions section.

In the outdoor tv category, Has Rtings thought of testing other products like Furrion, Neptune or Sunbright? these are commonly available in Canada and are certified for outdoor use. one other thing I feel should be mentioned is what happens if a unit was outside and then brought inside. What liability does the homeowner have when using a inside only tv outdoors?
