Movie Mode: Why is it always recommended?

While this pertains to the Q900R, it applies to calibrations of TV’s in general.

Why do rtings and other calibrators suggest Movie Mode as the best or recommended picture mode in their calibration settings? When pausing a show in HD/4K/HDR, and changing between Dynamic, Standard, Natural, and Movie, it is very noticeable that the picture is significantly softened & details like facial pores are washed away in movie mode. With the emphasis on providing the sharpest picture as possible – from HD, to 4K, and now to 8K – why do many people prefer a softer image?

I am just curious. Not that I am debating personal preferences, as I personally prefer sharpened images, with a neutral or cooler tone as opposed to warmer pictures, and many people prefer the opposite. And by no means am I a videophile – I don’t have a trained eye for many of the intricacies that you evaluate.
