Question: Sony A90J or A80J for family room?

Comparing the Sony A90J to the A80J, I don’t understand how this tv gets an edge and higher ratings. For example, input lag on the A90J is almost double the A80J in some settings (like 1080p without game mode and 4K @ 120hz), yet they both have the same score of 9.3. Brightness tests come out about the same but all the photos shown make the A90J appear much darker (I’m not sure if it’s because the screen is less reflective or something else). I looked into the Sony 8 and 9 series (LEDs) a few years ago (E and F series) and the 9 series was vastly superior in build quality and brightness. It seems like these 2 OLEDs (A80J and A90J), getting the 9 series isn’t worth it, even if the 9 series is slightly more expensive.

If I have a chance to pick up a 77” A80J around $1500 or A90J around $1700, which one should I get? This is going on a family room with poor light control (at least for now). There are 5 large (2x6’) west facing windows with no window treatments in the same room. It will mostly be used for watching movies and sports. I have an 82” Samsung in the loft for gaming.

There isn't much you can do to improve motion blur, but you might want to try the settings that we used here.
