I tried this tv for a few weeks and mostly really liked it, but I ended up returning it because of the job it did with upscaling– standard def looks HORRIBLE compared to watching it on my Samsung 4K tv (NU7100) of equal size. Anything less than HD seemed to look especially bad on the TCL when it came to OTA content, with washed-out color. 720p OTA was passable but barely– the Samsung NU7100 still does it better.

My question is, is this something that could be fixed or improved in the future on this particular model, say via firmware, or is this something TCL might be trending towards improving in future versions of the 5-Series? If it wasn’t for that one issue with upscaling, I would have kept the tv; everything else about it fit my needs quite well.
