Game Mode issue

Hi reviewers,

After looking at your review I decided to buy a an LG 7300 model (UM557300PTA) instead of a Samsung RU7100. I’ve been a long time Samsung user and this is the first time I’m experiencing LG. However I am utterly disappointed about few things which I’ve never had before with my old Samsung (55JU6400).

  1. Samsung does pretty great job with Game Mode by completely turning off post-processing. but this LG model appears to be still doing some kind of post processing. I noticed this when I played FIFA 20 (PS4 Pro 4K HDR mode), it’s menu icons in PS4 ( triangles and circle icons etc) are not razor sharp even at 4K. I can see a little haze around them and if I increase sharpness I can see jaggy edges.  I’ve followed your guides and calibrated it to best possible setting for gaming. But I still can not get around this. As I remember Samsung did display these icons perfectly.  Is this something that has to do with chroma 444 support? According to your website, this TV is fully capable with that too. Am I missing something here?

  2. According to your review this TV is very good at upscaling 720p content, but when I compare this with Samsung I still feel like LGs upscaling is not that great even after calibrating it. Your review made an impact on my purchase regarding this too. I thought this was as good as Samsung because you’ve given similar scores for 720p upscaling for both Samsung RU7100 and this LG UM7300.

However a very good thing about this TV is less reflections. I’m using this in a very bright room during day time with lot of reflections and I think TV does handle it pretty well.

What I’m most concerned about is Game Mode issue. Is there any way I can make it look like a PC monitor ( 1:1 pixel mapping) when playing a PS4 game?

Hello, I saw in the test that the brightness of the W95A is above 80 and there is no flicker. I would like to know which one is better for the eyes compared to the OLED flicker of the 42LGC4. I found that when playing Xbox COD on C4, the interface is at 60Hz and the VRR is flashing heavily at 120Hz. When entering the game at 120Hz, the flashing is relatively slow. I took the photo by adjusting the shutter speed on my phone. I want to know which of the high brightness PWM flicker free and OLED special flicker like W95A causes less harm to the eyes. thank you

Why are the TVs with 10,000hz, 30,000hz, 7,800hz and so on rated lower than 960 and 720?

I have a TCL 535 which is 960 and doesn’t bother me. But I tried various TVs last year from Sony and Hisense that were 720 and below and really bothered me. I’m looking at a couple TVs that rate 7800 and up but wondering why they score lower at 9.0. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Unfortunately, this is a flaw with our current test methodology. It’ll be fixed in our next update, due early next year.

So you’re saying it should be higher than a 9.0?
