These changes seem to have happened so drastically across the board that things are just radically different now, it essentially nullified your entire findings previously with some of the rankings changes.
The previous kings of the under $350 segment, the ASUS VG279QM and 259QM, previously ranked at 8.8 and 8.7 for gaming respectively, have now both been bumped down to 8.2, equivalent to the Acer Nitro XF243Y.They even have the identical numbers in mixed usage and media consumption, even though they had small differences previously. It is as if nuance-at-a-glance was lost. Yet, the LG 27GL83A-B jumped from 8.2 to 8.4 in gaming, leapfrogging all of them? It seems to show a bias against 1080p for 1440p when it comes to whatever your โresolution changesโ were.
Yet, the other resolutions were not immune to strange result findings that defy previous results either - The Asus VG27AQ had been at 8.5 gaming with the VG27AQL1A at 8.4, but yet now they flip-flopped and the L1A is an 8.3 but the AQ is bumped all the way down to an 8.1, below those 1080p monitors I mentioned above. And at 4k, the Dell S2722QC went from an 8.0 in gaming to a 7.2? Thatโs dropping like a rock!
Far be it from me to question experts on actual testing methodology, but is it a great idea to change it so drastically all at once that it renders the entire last generation of results utterly obsolete? I know that science constantly refines itself, and manufacturing does so as well, but it usually does so in smaller amounts, not drastic jumps that basically seem to employ a scorched earth tactic to previous results. Then again, I wasnโt around for the 1.0 to 1.1 revision change, and I CERTAINLY wasnโt using the results as a buying guide to purchase a monitor at THAT EXACT SAME TIME, so forgive me if Iโm a bit reeling right now, as I have an Amazon wish list of about 20 monitors, with a format that looks like this in each one: the M27Q notes entry, for example โ$319.99 when added, 13.7 lbs, 9 without stand, 170hz, IPS, 1ms, 2K 8.1 Mixed Usage (#2), 7.9 Multimedia (#2) , 8.6 Gaming (#3), 7.3 HDR Gaming - Rtings.com Monitors under $350โ - Looks like I either should have pulled the trigger a couple of days ago, or I get to wait for another couple of weeks or longer. Sigh.
