Hello Rtings Team,
I have a question and a little issue. I have a Hisense U8H and a Vizio M51a - H6 soundbar. I have the soundbar connected via HDMI cable in the eARC Port of the tv. Now you mentioned “for DTS:X change Digital audio out to Pass Through and for all other formats change it to Dolby Digital or Auto.” Now on my U8H if I leave Digital Audio Out on Auto as you suggested and play something while I am streaming through the TV (ex. Youtube, Netflix, Prime) and go to info on my soundbar it tells me Dolby Audio or Dolby Atmos - “DOLBY MAT”. Now as far as I know this Dolby MAT is for Apple TV. On my Xbox or PS if I select Dolby Digital and go to the info in my soundbar it still tell me Dolby Audio - DOLBY MAT. It even does this for YouTube as well if I play a song which is only 2 channels it should say LPCM instead of DOLBY MAT.
Now if I select Pass Through on my TV I guess this way regardless of the source the tv sends Audio as is to my Soundbar and then soundbar decodes it and plays it. And also I found that if I select Pass Through and play a video on netflix and then go to info on my soundbar it tells me Dolby Audio - “Dolby Digital Plus” which I know that streaming services support. Same for my game consoles if I have Dolby Digital selected it tells me Dolby Audio - Dolby Digital not Dolby MAT. Especially for streaming I’ve noticed after selecting Pass Through sounds a richer and louder than having the Digital audio out to auto as you suggested. Do you think it is an issue with a TV not communicating properly on the Auto setting? Thank you!!!
