The Breville the Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro BOV900BSS is a large air fryer/toaster oven combo with a big capacity. This high-end model has some premium features, like an LED screen and adjustable beep volume. It has a fan for air frying that you can switch on or off for most modes. It comes with the usual wire racks and baking pans, as well as an air fry basket, broiling rack, and pizza pan.
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is good for mixed use. Its large cooking chamber can fit a 9 X 13" baking sheet, an average frozen pizza, or nine slices of bread. It stands out for its good air-frying performance, so it's suitable for preparing crispy foods like chicken wings or veggies. While it's slow to preheat, making it less ideal for reheating a quick snack, it maintains a stable temperature during cooking, which helps make it a decent choice for baking. It's not bad for toasting, especially if you need a lot at once, but it's somewhat slow and doesn't make the most evenly browned bread.

Fan is adjustable for most settings.
Toasts unevenly at maximum capacity.
Preheats slowly.
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is good for reheating leftovers. Its big cooking chamber accommodates all kinds of containers. This model doesn't overshoot the selected temperature, which helps prevent your food from drying out before it's properly heated through. However, it's very slow to preheat, so it's not the fastest option for reheating leftovers.
Large capacity.
Preheats slowly.
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is decent for baking. It maintains a stable temperature during cooking, which helps you get good results when baking or roasting. However, it tends to maintain a temperature of about 20-30°F below the selected one, so you may want to choose a higher setting for the best results when following a recipe or baking delicate foods.
Temperature is stable.
Undershoots temperature settings.
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is good for air frying. Its dedicated air fry mode uses a powerful fan, which helps it crisp and brown foods like French fries much faster than toaster ovens without an air fry feature. Its large cooking chamber gives you room to arrange your food in a single layer for better results, and the included mesh basket helps ensure your food cooks evenly. It produces quite evenly air-fried food, although a proportion of it will still be undercooked. It's also still slower compared with most good drawer-style air fryers.
Produces mostly crispy, golden-brown air fried food.
Comes with a mesh basket for air frying.
Somewhat slow compared with basket-style air fryers.
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is decent for toasting. It can fit nine slices of regular sandwich bread, but at full capacity, some pieces will be nearly burned while others are mostly untoasted. It produces much more evenly browned toast if you use only four slices at once, but it's still very slow, especially compared to four-slice slot toasters from the same brand.
Toasts more evenly with four slices.
Toasts unevenly at maximum capacity.
Toasts slowly.
The Breville the Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro has an excellent cooking capacity. Its large cooking chamber can accommodate most frozen pizzas, a 9 X 13" baking sheet, or nine slices of bread. There's enough vertical space for taller items like a loaf of bread.
Large capacity.
This toaster oven comes in one color variant, 'Brushed Stainless Steel.' Here's a picture of our unit's label.

The Breville the Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro BOV900BSS is a high-end toaster oven/air fryer. This big oven can fit bigger dishes, so it's a good option for baking or preparing full meals. It offers a much better air frying performance than other big ovens, like the Anova Precision Oven 2.0, and maintains a stable temperature during cooking, which is helpful for baking and reheating.
However, if you plan to use your toaster oven as a toaster, it's not the best option. It takes a long time to make unevenly toasted bread, so consider similar models like the COSORI Smart Air Fryer CS130-AO if you want to toast a lot of bread at once. This toaster oven is also very slow to preheat, but on the plus side, it comes equipped with a preheat reminder.
This big toaster oven takes up a significant amount of counter space. It's bigger than other ovens from the brand we've tested, including the Breville the Smart Oven BOV800XL.
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is a big toaster oven that can fit a 9" X 13" baking sheet or nine slices of sandwich bread. There are four grooves for different tray positions, but you can place its tray upside down or right side up, giving you eight possible positions. The suggested uses for each position are written on the door. If you use position 3 or 4, the rack will automatically 'eject' when you open the door, so you can more easily grab your food.
It has a variety of settings for different recipes and cooking methods. It has a fan, and you can use it with convection or not for many settings, so you can quickly crisp fries, veggies, and chicken wings with convection or use it without a fan when baking or reheating. There's also a preheat mode for some settings and a 'Rotate Reminder' you can use when preparing something like cookies on both racks. With its 'Toast' and 'Bagel' settings, you choose your number of slices (1-9) and a shade setting instead of manually entering a temperature and time. You can use the 'Frozen Food' button with some settings (Bagel, Toast, Pizza, Air Fry, Reheat, Cookies) and add additional time to defrost your food before cooking or heating.
Here's a list of every cooking mode, along with the settings you can select for each:
Function | Temperature | Time | Convection |
Toast | Shade setting 1 - 7 | Depends on number of slices (1 - 9) | No |
Bagel | Shade setting 1 - 7 | Depends on number of slices (1 - 9) | No |

Finally, it has some quality-of-life features, including a cooking chamber light that switches on automatically when you open the door. The timer will also pause when you open the door mid-cycle. There's a dedicated button for switching between Fahrenheit and Celsius, which you can hold down to adjust the beep volume.
The interior has a non-stick coating, which, combined with its spacious cooking chamber, makes cleaning easy. It's easy to reach under its lower heaters, which are spaced apart well. However, cleaning above or between its upper heaters is not as easy. The small metal guards that help keep trays in place in the oven have sharp corners, and you can easily cut yourself while reaching inside. The tray has an enamel coating, making it easier to clean than non-coated trays but not as easy to clean as non-stock ones.
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro has a mediocre toasting performance at full capacity. Bread in the center of the oven gets deeply browned on top, but in any other position, some parts don't get browned at all. The underside of the bread isn't browned very evenly, regardless of its position.
It's good for air frying. Using its 'Air Fry' setting, which uses the maximum fan speed, it quickly produces mostly evenly browned and crispy food. However, some of your food is still undercooked. It's not quite as fast as most good drawer-style air fryers.
This toaster oven takes a long time to preheat. Fortunately, it has a preheat reminder, so you can focus on other tasks while it heats up.
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro has decent temperature stability. It doesn't maintain the selected temperature very accurately. If you set it to 350, the actual temperature is closer to 300. However, otherwise, the temperature is very stable and consistent throughout the cooking chamber. It maintains a steady temperature and never overshoots your selected setting, which helps you follow recipes and avoid burning or drying out food.
It toasts slowly. It's not too bad if you use its full capacity since you can fit nine slices at once. However, it's not much faster with four slices, so it's very inefficient for toasting unless you're using its maximum capacity.
