If you could please update on the environment used to test the PG42UQ as far as GPU and if tested via DP/HDMI, were there any changes made within the Nvidia control panel. I’m mainly focused on HDR though as my experience with this panel has been a bit off from the reviews I’ve seen.
Seems to be on the positive side for known reviewers and for other users we have the opposite experience.
Only thing I get from it all is that the panel you tested has a mfg date of Jun 2022 and the one I have is Jul 2022.
Since this review came in as a 7.8 (Brightness) and 9.1 for HDR (Overall) it got me thinking.
For me SDR looks better than HDR and this is my 2nd panel, I would think it’s my setup but others have had the same experience. I’m using a 2080ti on DP, I’ve tried on HDMI and same issue. I know another user that has a 3080 using HDMI and they have the same issue. I also see a few post on Reddit of users having the same experience in that SDR looks better than HDR.
If HDR is turn on it’s washed out within windows and games, the brightness and colors are not on par at all over the LG C2. Not trying to start a C2 rival session as I love the PG42UQ for it’s SDR quality but not the HDR issue I seem to be having along with others. Other than this HDR issue it’s a great panel but I can’t justify keeping if there’s something bugged after the Jun 2022 mfg date for the price.
Hopefully someone could shed some light on what could be the issue given it seems Rtings reviewers experience has been on the positive side.
Also when in HDR the OSD looks to be in HDR but the display that’s showing my content doesn’t match the same level of brightness as it should. My experience looks like HDR is on along with a Blue Light/night light filter but it’s not I’ve checked. Want to note that I tried on XBSX and it’s the same issue as on PC.
Thank You in advance for all your help and Thank You for the review, even though my experience isn’t even close to it when it comes to HDR but hope you can help in something that might fix this issue or at least shed light on a possible hardware/software defect that will help in my decision on keeping or not.
