Dolby Digital Plus Passthrough over HDMI ARC

Hello,

I’ve been reading some reviews about the Sonos Arc. Specifically it was What HiFi’s review that drew my attention. I thought i had an understanding of this but this has now raised an eyebrow and to be honest i would rather hear Rtings opinion on the matter than What Hifi.

I understand that DD 5.1 can be pass through on this TV via Hdmi ARC. I understand that Atmos can be transmitted through the compressed audio mix Dolby Digital Plus (say apple tv). What HiFi state that this tv is unable to passthrough atmos via hdmi. There is no eARC so the True HD Atmos mix is N/A but i thought that it would support DD+ atmos since it can be sent through HDMI ARC.

Can you confirm that this TV only supports DD ARC and not DD+ ARC? I imagine this is restriction from Samsung on their implementation of ARC on this TV? Is that the case or do i not fully understand the standard?

Do you normally track TVs when reviewing if it supports DD+ passthrough or just check for DD passthrough.

P.S your sites great

Cheers
