On my EG9600 there is a picture setting called "HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color". It also has shown a message telling me to use HDMI1 and HDMI2 for better color. Does this mean it does support the UHD standard?

    Hi drE,

This is a great point you bring up and, in some cases, we will test a TV as a monitor like we did with the LG C1 48โ€. As we see more crossover use with TVs and monitors these are things that our testing and test developer teams take note of and keep in mind for potential future test bench updates.

I am not sure if you are only talking about the pre-calibration review section with pre white balance, pre gamma curve, and pre color? But we do test pc mode setting for input lag and supported resolutions.

When the new TV season starts, we test multiple modes for the first TV or two until we get a sense of what we are looking at for each brand for the year. An issue that will arise with certain brands is that while in PC mode you can have limited features and certain settings will not be useable.

Sonyโ€™s are checked for PC mode accuracy because game mode and PC mode (aka Graphics) on Sonyโ€™s are similar and pretty much interchangeable. Ultimately, we donโ€™t select PC mode as the pre-calibration setting because in general most users donโ€™t use TVs in PC mode. Often users will select from the regular picture modes (cinema, movie, or whatever) and donโ€™t require 4:4:4 because most content will be consumed in 4:2:2 or 4:2:0. In short, this greater adjustability and the fact that it regularly looks better out of the box translates into a picture mode that meets more of our users TV needs.

Unfortunately, we canโ€™t test every mode for all units and post it to the review, but we do appreciate your intrigue and input!
