R646 vs R655 Gaming

In your comparison of the two 6 series models you stated that the R655 is better overall for gaming, however your scale between 1-10 show the R646 having 0.1 better ratings in both Gaming and HDR Gaming…. just curious why that is? Also, is the performance of the VRR lacking on the R646 in comparison to Freesync Premium Pro of the the R655? I’m new to all of this TV tech talk and I’m a bit overwhelmed with ALL that there is to know.

Unfortunately, this isn’t currently part of our test methodology. We’ve taken note of your request; we will be updating our test bench in a couple of months and we will consider it.

That would be great to see the visual profile of the color characteristics of a light source :) thx

the HDR support and console gaming are much better on this BenQ I have this BenQ and LG 27UD69 which is nearly the same as 27UK650. the LG’s are great monitors but in the HDR support the wide gammut and the HDR processing is way better in BenQ another important plus is the size comparison because 32" is far better than 27" in immersion the last one of advantages is contrast of VA panel and the deep blacks

as a curiosity I recommend to check the real burn in test on rtings as a oportunity how LG IPS panel are in real lifetime comparing to VA good lesson about quality and durability https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/permanent-image-retention-burn-in-lcd-oled

As many say hdr is good but it lacks enough of brightness in this model , but what if i play in dark room ,can this solve brightness issue??

Philips 328P6VUBREB has the similar but certified VESA DisplayHDR 600 panel - strogner highlighted and with some kind of peak zones and has more problems with some kind of peak lightleaks in corner parts of screen during the HDR. So in practice, it is not a rule that a brighter panel will be better because it involves a different risk of problems.

Yes, I think dark room will be helpful in compensating brightness of panel.

do you know how to update the firmware?

There doesn’t appear to be any firmware updates currently available for this Monitor.

@Adam @nauy Yes, there was an update and with last firmware colours are warmer I think basing on opinions. Last rev is V013 but some reviews I found were done on V011 as You can see here https://3dnews.ru/assets/external/illustrations/2018/05/18/969897/sm.menu_service.800.jpg I also found that people with the ealier firmware were writing about whites too strong going to blue (cold whites), especialy in HDR mode. As far I was search, the firmware update could be done only by service but I do not know if they are doing it under warranty.

@Adam did you try to oc to high up the Hz?

You mean the new one (UL950) or both?^^ I set up my own rating here (54%Gaming, 30% Office, 20% Multimedia) and the best 32" 4k monitors in the list still are the UD99 (top1) and then the UL950. Since I do only buy a new monitor every couple of years I don’t care if it is a bit more expansive, but paying another 200-300$ to get a WORSE device…nope :D

    i mean the new one

at the end of review there is “Compared to other Monitors” and there you can find also UD99 comparison and side-to-side link

After I while I got used to the frames, and started enjoying the color vibrancy and size of the screen. Also what’s most important it seems to cause less eye strain than the IPS.

Still the screen uniformity makes me question the quality of va displays:

If anyones interested, here is how the va glow and stains look like:

“The EW3270U works great as a standard UHD monitor, but where it really shines is with HDR content. I’ve said this before in other reviews, but if you haven’t experienced real HDR gaming (HDR10, Dolby Vision) on a compatible monitor you’re seriously missing out. The way light reflects off of environments, the realism of fiery explosions, the wide color gamut—it’s really something to behold. I spent quite a few hours playing HDR-ready games like Destiny 2, Doom, Battlefield 1, and Far Cry 5. While the picture quality on the EW3270U isn’t quite up-to-par with some higher-end monitors like the Asus PG27UQ, it’s damn close and the quality-to-price ratio is incredible.”

User (calibration settings in review) is much more dark, too dark for games . There’s nice saturated Game preset or two emulated HDR options with nice colors with diferent temperature. Also others presets are useful in multimedia. I cant imagine what errors Rtings are talking about. HDR emu it’s just another preset like Game or Photo or sRGB mode. Dont stress, no errors with this option ;)

will anyone try to use the first option to manage BI corrections? I think the lowest default setting of brightness with BI+ON is still too high. Please try to write how could we safe use the features settings in the first service menu with presets and BI options :-)

Are you able to provide a source for this? We’ve found multiple websites that confirm our findings of 40-60 Hz, including AMD.

You can set RR 23-65Hz in 4K, dont know how about FreeSync as I’m on integrated intel via USB-C

was wondering if there is option to set the 75Hz because it’s in panel spec as max RR

“It supports HDR but unfortunately, its limited brightness prevents it from delivering the creators intent, and thus it is unlikely that you will benefit from using it in this mode.”

Sure it doesnt get bright, but tell me this isnt an improvement..

exactly, one of the best implements of HDR in others reviews
