Any spoiler on “Reflections”? Which size are you testing? Depending on the size it can be an IPS or ADS panel…
Here in Brazil Samsung is discounting until June, 25th, and the reflection issue is my last checkpoint. Spoilers are appreciated. ;)
Was it a big issue with the qn85b? Was thinking of buying the qn85c because the leap to the qn95c is quite a lot of money for just anti-glare
For me it is, during dark scenes i only can see my reflection, on the other hand during the night you cannot turn of the lights completely to avoid glare beacuse blooming is getting worse.

It’s a bit too early to say unfortunately, We don’t work over the weekends and we don’t anticipate wrapping up our testing until July 5th, so we don’t have enough data yet to comment on performance. Sorry about that!

I just purchased a QN90B 75" and it looks great except the reflections and rainbow effect is very distracting. How does the QN85C compare for reflections and does it not have the rainbow effect?

I recently returned a QN90B for the same reason and just set up my 75" QN85C today, not as good as handling reflections (no actual testing going on here) but no rainbow reflections and totally worth it.

Thanks for the input. I might do the same. Too bad its $400 more and more reflections, but the rainbow is quite annoying.
Very interested to see how this compares to the QN90B. With the current AMZ sale they are about the same price.

Did you mean to say “….a bit better than its predecessor……” or did you mean “successor”? The predecessor of the QN85B was the QN85A which isn’t part of this comparison.

Native Black uniformity, It appears to be evaluated under the Local dimming function Off condition, and although QN85C and QN85B are at the Similar Native Contrast level, the Native Black uniformity of QN85C appears to be very dark. In conclusion, it is judged that the Native Black Uniformity condition of QN85C operates Local dimming or Global dimming. A long time ago, Rtings mentioned that for a fair evaluation of local imaging technology close to cheating, they would either turn off from the service menu or create extreme forms of patterns (e.g., very small check pattern squares).

Hi! Unfortunately, at the time of writing the review it was impossible to completely disable local dimming on the QN85C, as the setting to do so was absent from the service menu unlike last year’s QN85B. For contrast, we simulated local dimming off using an inverse contrast pattern, as you mentioned. As for native black uniformity, we had to test the TV’s black uniformity using local dimming set to ‘low’ instead of off, as we can’t use an inverse contrast pattern to test for black uniformity. Unfortunately, yes, this gives the TV much better black uniformity than it would have if the local dimming was completely disabled. We’ll routinely check the service menu to see if a future firmware update unlocks more options; if it does, we’ll then retest the TV with local dimming completely off.

You are correct that the backlight charts in the review are 120Hz. We will be retesting this and updating the results to the proper 960Hz. It looks like the incorrect picture mode chart was used.

Isn’t it more important what the TV is capable of, not what it can do without those capabilities? In what scenario would most people want to have local dimming off if it is effective at it? I’m not asking about TVs that are ineffective at it, only TVs that are effective at it.

Not a stupid question at all, that’s a very good question, actually. In a perfect world, with an theoretical perfect local dimming feature, the native contrast wouldn’t matter. The problem is, TV technology just isn’t there yet, even the best local dimming TVs on the market have issues with blooming and zone control, especially in difficult scenes. In those scenes, the native contrast plays a much bigger role than the local dimming, as the local dimming simply can’t keep up, so if you have a TV with a low native contrast ratio, those difficult scenes will look worse.

Update: We retested the response time and flicker frequency in the correct modes, as we originally tested them in the wrong picture mode. As a result, the response time is slower than our initial results. The Response Time, Flicker-Free, and Stutter results have been updated. Multiple usage scores have also decreased slightly as a result.
Hi! Is it common for the tv to have noticeable backlight FALD grid when viewing solid or truly bright color such as white and blue? And is there a way to fix that?
