I bought the 50" K-50S30 and the picture is amazing. I don’t see the contrast problems in the review. I auditioned the similar TCL and Hisense models and the picture was awful it didn’t look 4K. The Sony them blows them away. The only complaint is the stand isn’t adjustable so they made the TV to be wall mounted. Also the picture default settings has the backlight and contrast at medium levels and you have to change the setting to Dolby Vision Vivid. If you do research those TCL and Hisense TV’s don’t last and they have terrible customer service. I’m an electronics technician and the PCB’s in the Sony have high quality top tier capacitors Rubycon and United Chemi-Con. In the TCL and Hisense’s they use bottom tier capacitors like Chongx which means they don’t build their TV’s to last

Brilliant tv for the money if you have time to play with the settings and you know what your doing it looks awesome and the motion is great

Would be nice if the video review explained more about all the picture modes and setting And what will give you the best Picture in what PICTURE Mode and how to do it and for what input signal’s are better over another input MODE This should be done on all TV’S if possible You can get a Bravia 3 to Look like a Bravia 7 if you take the time to play with the SETTINGS

Yes, disabling local dimming will decrease the peak brightness. This will hurt image quality, especially in HDR, as bright highlights won’t stand out the way they should.

If your using it for 10Bit Video Sources Via USB what will that do with image ect ?

I owned this tv for a while. They’re right about when and what modes has flicker. You can easily check by downloading a phone camera app that lets you control shutter speed and set the shutter speed to 1/4000 or so. Then just point it at the tv and you’ll see black lines show up when it has flicker.

hi there this is good to know what are the BEST Picture Modes then ? any other little tips to get rid of the flicker ?

It’s inclusive, so a setting of 15 or a setting of 50 would also flicker-free. As for the 55", we don’t know for sure, but we expect it to be about the same. The exact setting might be a bit different, so it could be from 14-50 or 18-50 or something like that, but the overall behavior should be about the same.

if local dimming is disabled it will be a lot less BRIGHTER Correct ?
this would affect the image Quality ?

I find that 50hz TV’s have the fastest response time for motion
it could be input related as I use a lot of Stored Media and Play it via USB Drives I have played a scene that is FAST over and over on a great many TV’s and Brands and Sizes

Samsung Q60D is the Fastest and sony Bravia 3 Any thoughts ?

Bravia 9 mini LED vs Bravia 8 OLED?

Bravia 9 Wins The 8 is just not Bright enough to see the full aspect of a Show or Movie and the Whites Color are poor Stick with the Bravia 9 or Bravia 7 is Just as good

slow panning shots are worse and seem to exhibit more motion blur(smearing, doubling of image) on any vertical images(edges of walls, posts even people) when the tv comes out of standby, after more time trying this out it does not happen all the time and just cycling through picture modes does not (always?)fix it, when it does happen changing film mode from high to low and back to high again seems to fix it, this tv really has bad motion handling compared to the Sony X90h(X900H). i was wondering why you don’t give the motion handling /frame interpolation/black frame insertion actual scores based on other tv’s?

there should be 2 bars on the setting that you move to full to get rid of about 90%-95% of motion issues in fast moving scenes for all inputs and then you can use black frame insertion and move it all the way as well Yes you will loose brightness but it will then be 100% Motion free Have you done this and have you saved the settings to save all

Obviously you can’t really answer this question but do you guys get any feedback on like what TVs would be best for people that suffer with some kind of eye strain/migraines, would LG be better with their eye comfort certifications or maybe the S95D with its anti-glare matte finish? Thanks for any information back!

is it flicker or is it motion NLur or Ghosting cos they all work together in weird ways the The Bravia 7 and 9 are the best to cover all basses it also depends on what you are watching and if it dark or a lit room as dark room will Hert the eyes more I prefer my Sony Bravia 7 and 9 over my LG G4 You can turn on the advanced motion Pro on the LG G4 and the motion then is So Awesome an smooth but you loose about 30% of brightness A lot of TV’s have also Black Frame Insertion that is the same thing and does the same thing

But Sony you dont need it as it is Faster and brighter that LG G4 and with only 10% Flicker or Jutter behind fast moving objects

1113111 on the remote then press ok or don’t press ok have the tv on normal TV or a input and see how you go

Local Dimming Yes Backlight Full-Array Dimming Zones Count Of Tested TV 480 The local dimming zone transitions are good overall, but there are a few distracting issues. There’s no flicker, which is great, but there’s a noticeable halo effect as bright objects move across the screen. The halo effect gets worse the quicker objects move, as the local dimming can’t quite keep up with it.

IF YOU TURN LOCAL DIMMING OFF - WOULDN’T THE IMAGE GET BETTER THEN IN THIS ???

Yes, as that’s precisely the point of BFI and how it works. By inserting black frames between each real frame it decreases the perceived brightness, but improves motion by reducing the amount of persistence blur. All BFI features work this way.

Do you have a % Scale of how much Brightness the TV Looses At all ? Thanks

    Hi there
Have you noticed that when this is Enabled that
you get extremely good MOTION and Loose a % of Brightness When Enabled ?

The Motion Pro setting enables the TV’s black frame insertion (BFI) feature.

Hey there. Can you explain what you’re seeing with the motion handling? There’s not really any reason that the QM851G should have significantly worse motion handling than the two Sony TVs you mentioned, unless you’re using motion interpolation. If you are, the QM851 does have pretty bad motion interpolation that doesn’t even work well with slow moving scenes. Thanks.

we use a lot of files Via USB input Playing Saved Movies and TV Shows And a lot of Youtube Content It Seems to only give me one Picture setting to access Via USB
Maybe it needs a firmware update or maybe it can’t handle USB Playing Video Files Do you have any thought on this ?

Would the LG G4 from premium to flagship be the best for eye health, I said went suffer from headaches and eye strain and I’m trying to look for a TV that’s capable of helping mitigate these best as possible, also looking at the S90D Sony Bravia 8 and LG c4?

On the other Hand The Z95A I’d go over the LG G4 with better Color, Motion, Upscaling, Detail But it’s only just tiny bit Better

I’d go the G4 for Color accuracy, No Macro blocking in dark scenes, Motion is great, Fast moving scenes has about 5% Flicker, DETAIL is Excellent,,,,,,,, I brought it for all these reasons and I use it for ,,,,,, Streaming and Youtube content and USB content and PC HDMI and Antenna ,,,,,,,, I,m Sensitive to Color Accuracy and Detail and Motion and , for these reasons I got it, and it Helps with my eyes to not even have to try and Focus at all or be annoyed ,,,, I’m always relaxed
And there Navigation System is Cruise and There Settings Menu is excellent for example you can save any of the Picture modes you want to all SOURCES of every input and out put + you can alter them to your liking Hope that helps

Does the boost mode also reduce input lag in 120hz/144hz games or is it limited to 60hz gaming just like previous LG oleds? It is not clear from the review

It does a lot the image is so smooth but with the cost of the screen dimming by 30% ,,, I don’t like it Tho , so SONY has that covered with no loss of Brightness

If flicker free is a 9.9 and motion is just a very tiny little lower that the Bravia 7 Would it mean that the LG is better in fast moving objects ? Is 120hz a big difference over 100hz in this instant ?

I did get to test the star wars scene with up close fast scenes that the screen was trying to interrelate on the BRAVIA 7 and it was faster than the LG G4 and a LG qned81 100hz TV ? Thanks for the HELP

I got an 85" U8N to replace an 85" Sony X900H. I am happy with the bright & vibrant panel. There is, however, a single significant drawback compared to X900H - the Google TV UI on U8N, a 2024 model, is sluggish and not as smooth as that of X900H, a 2020 model. This problem is mostly noticeable when playing back 4K HDR contents on YouTube. Every single time at video playback startup, the video would stutter and then freeze for a couple of seconds before it can ply back smoothly. By turning on data for nerds, my 85" U8N consistently drops 2-5% of frames when playback 4K HDR videos on YouTube. In case you wonder if this was because of WiFi connection? My X900H used to connect via WiFi and never ever dropped a single frame when I playback 4K HDR contents. Now U8N at the same spot but connected wired via a Cat6E Gigabit connection stutters at the beginning of every single YouTube 4K HDR video. After turning on the Turbo mode in Advanced Settings, it gets a little better but the problem persists. I really like this TV and its picture quality. But Inhave to say that I am very disappointed at how seemingly inadequate the processor is to handle modern video contents on the get go. I am concerned how this experience will deteriorate in the next few years as all modern electronics do. So buyers be warned!

I’ve seen way to many Refurbished and second hand Hisenses U8N and lower,,,,, Good Luck Hope it lasts

I’d suggest you look at the Low-Quality Content Smoothing and Upscaling: Sharpness Processing sections of these reviews. You can compare them side-by-side using our compare tool.

i’m meaning the scoring you have done on both TV’S but how do they stack together cos one is LCD and one OLED So if the SONY is Higher in its Picture upscaling will it then beat the LG G$ OLED or not ?

Hi, The settings we used for our pre-calibration settings can be found on the Settings page.

If you have the LG G4 65 inch and the Sony Bravia 9 ,,,,, So then which one will look better in it’s SCALING PROCESSING SMOOTHING I ask this because they are two different technologies ,,,, So which one will look clearer and Detailed ect ect Taking into account all the processing to make a image look its best and then the two different Technologies ?????

No worries at all, I hope I can clear things up for you! So, first of all, it’s important to keep in mind that we differentiate between a TV’s ability to scale, and a TV’s ability to process. These are separate steps in the image processing pipeline, often handled by different chips on the TV, and we test this different aspects of a TV’s performance separately.

    Scaling

We don’t test scaling directly. Most TVs these days don’t have the ability to scale directly (also known as integer scaling), there’s almost always some form of smoothing and processing involved. We don’t currently try to evaluate the scaling algorithms used by TVs.

    Sharpness

The closest thing we have to a scaling test is the Upscaling: Sharpness Processing test. This test looks specifically at the sharpness of upscaled content. For this test, we are leaving most scaling and image processing features disabled, just letting the TV do its most basic thing, but we make adjustments to the sharpness setting to find the ideal setting.

    Content Smoothing

So when we talk about macroblocking and other pixelization and compression artifacts, we’re looking at the Low-Quality Content Smoothing test. This test is done with all of the TV’s processing enabled, as we want to see how powerful the smoothing algorithms are when given a challenging scene to work with. You’re absolutely right, a TV with those settings disabled shouldn’t do anything to the image. We enable everything that helps smooth out this content, and look at both how well it smooths out compression artifacts but also how well it preserves fine details. We don’t want the waxy look that comes from too much smoothing (looking at you, James Cameron).

Hey there. I’m not sure what you’re referring to since you didn’t link to anything, but blooming is exclusive to TVs with local dimming. You can get a similar effect to blooming with TVs that have a low contrast ratio, but it’s not quite the same thing. Thanks!

Totally love your videos and EVERYTHING you guys do It’s awesome SO THANKS

For the Sony X77L in your write up with the Picture on the screen You give it a 10 For BLOOMING it looks like the Brightness is turned up and there is no Blooming. Is that what is happening ?
