Backlight adjustment?

I’m trying to understand this, but is there an option to increase or decrease backlight brightness? There’s a “brightness” option, but I can’t tell if it is brightening the backlight, or raising the black level. The confusing thing is that there’s also a separate “black level” adjustment option, but I thought that traditionally, this is what “brightness” means? Just a little confusing.
