Yep. We recognize there’s a semantic issue here.
We occasionally refer to gaming keyboards with Hall effect switches as “mechanical keyboards” in a more general sense, as there’s a fairly strong understanding among most people of what constitutes a mechanical keyboard. For most, a keyboard with HE switches will fall under that umbrella.
A similar issue arises with keyboards that use optical switches, which, again, many people will likely include in the broader category of mechanical keyboards, and specifically mechanical gaming keyboards, for simplicity.
We’re faced with the choice of always referring to these keyboards in purely technical terms—HE, Magnetic, or Analog switch keyboards—but doing so risks less comprehension among a wider audience.
For this reason, we’ve chosen to occasionally use the umbrella term “mechanical keyboard” to identify analog keyboards like the Wooting 60HE while being careful to note that it uses Hall effect switches.
That said, we’re gradually moving away from this terminology as the consumer base becomes more familiar with distinctions between technologies. Thank you for raising the issue. It’s one we continue to consider.
