This is typically done by increasing the volume and possibly reducing the dynamic range of the frequency range where you’ll typically find the dialog. This is intended to help with dialog intelligibility. This can be useful for certain content with challenging soundtracks, content like news, rooms with too much echo, or for people with hearing issues.
