Still working on the calibration with what time I have. Sadly, it’s looks like I can’t just force Dolby Vision on HDR anymore solving the many annoyances it tends to have since this latest update. However, given it’s the holidays and many of us would love experience HDR/Dolby Vision as best as we can. I found a trick that seem to work so far with all the content I’ve been watching lately. Other than Peter Jackson’s “King Kong” which you can continue to use the default settings. It’s the only title that looks about right on default. While rest look bland, lack of color, and dim.
Set your contrast to 90 or 100, this really goes against most rules of calibrating, but it works so far. I set it at 90 because that’s the bare minimum where color seems about right without fade, but technically you can go 100 with only slight improvement. It doesn’t seem to affect clouds, snow, or the other usual things that high contrast could ruin. This may be do the blacks being changed in the last update (based on what many people are claiming online).
Anyhoo, hopefully this will help make your holiday watching better. Do note I use an Oppo UDP-203 player so results may vary for those with other players.
Oh, and one last thing, as I am still tweaking around with the settings; set Dolby Vision gamma to 2.4 as the colors seem more accurate or better.
Happy Holidays and a Marry Christmas everyone!

Hey Matthew - I used your calibration settings and it has vastly improved my picture quality - I was wondering if you were able to get the most recent firmware update that is currently rolling out: https://www.reddit.com/r/VIZIO_Official/comments/vgwv5p/vizio_oled_and_p_series_firmware_update/
If so, have you adjusted any of your recommended settings based on this update?
Thanks in advance, and thanks for all the work you’ve put in thus far!

Yes, I had some more improvements and was going to upgrade this post. Until by chance, noticed that people were getting these new firmwares. So, I decided to wait instead. Got mine a few days ago. So far the only real f-up on Vizio’s part is the aspect ratio. Now we don’t have 4:3 (1.33:1) or a proper cropped setting (i.e; most cable channel are broadcast at 1.33:1 with black bars on the top/bottom to fit the 1.78:1 image) and their “Zoom” option is crap (literally zooms in, cutting major parts of the image, making the picture quality worse). This as offensive as their previous firmware the f-up peoples sound-bars, maybe worse. Hopefully, we soon get another firmware to fix this. But I shall digress- just had to get that off my chest.
I’ll eventually post my new calibrations on the original post “Sharing 75" calibration to help others.” Since there’s no reason to keep that, even for record purposes. But post here what I have. It may not change as when I was checking the hidden Sony calibration (available on every Sony Blu-ray, calibrations may vary, so use the newest discs) and everything looked A-okay. Now, do note that I have only been experimenting with “Local Contrast” for the last month or two. However, watching “Star Trek” (original series - enhance) this did produce more visible stars. Plus, in the case of HDR10/+; it gave a pretty good boost. From a kind of dim look, to what I would say look about right. If anything brighter (on “The Dark Knight Trilogy”). This however was before the recent update. Though it makes me wonder if this was all I had to do when it came to those UHD titles (mainly Disney and Warner) that where too dark and dull. For those I would boosted the contrast to 100 to solve the problem. But I have yet to fully test this theory with the new update. Which is why I’m waiting a bit before I make an official post. So, if the contrast doesn’t look right, turn off “Local Contrast”. On the Sony color-bar calibration; the what is supposed to be barely noticeable black-bar will be more apparent with “Local Contrast” on (the center black, yet the edge brighter). I have decided for now to ignore this as I think this just the way “Local Contrast” handles that image. I’m always a little weary of using some of the advance settings as they can sometime create other issues.
